# How to connect LIV Hub to OBS on PC
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-hub-and-liv-camera/guides/liv-hub/connect-to-obs
Connect to OBS on PC
**LIV Hub and OBS cannot connect directly**. A local RTMP server acts as a bridge between LIV and OBS.
This process would work for similar capture software, like Streamlabs and Stream Elements.
# Find Your PC's Local IP Address
* Press Windows + R, type `cmd`, press Enter
* Type `ipconfig` and press Enter
* Look for "IPv4 Address" under your active network adapter (usually something like 192.168.1.x). For the purposes of this guide, I'll use `101.10.0.110`
# Set Up RTMP Server on your PC
You can use any RTMP server, some common ones are [nginx](https://github.com/illuspas/nginx-rtmp-win32/releases) and xiu. You'll need to start the server per the instructions of your chosen solution. For this guide, we'll use nginx.
## Set up nginx-rtmp
* Download nginx with RTMP module for Windows. [https://github.com/illuspas/nginx-rtmp-win32/releases](https://github.com/illuspas/nginx-rtmp-win32/releases)
* Extract the zip.
* \*\*Optional Step \*\*In below examples, I've renamed the folder to \nginx and moved it to my C drive. \
`C:\Program Files\nginx\`
* Configure nginx to accept RTMP streams on port 1935 in \nginx\conf\
As an example, you can use this file.
```
worker_processes 1;
error_log logs/error.log debug;
events {
worker_connections 1024;
}
rtmp {
server {
listen 1935;
application live {
live on;
}
application hls {
live on;
hls on;
hls_path temp/hls;
hls_fragment 8s;
}
}
}
http {
server {
listen 8080;
location / {
root html;
}
location /stat {
rtmp_stat all;
rtmp_stat_stylesheet stat.xsl;
}
location /stat.xsl {
root html;
}
location /hls {
#server hls fragments
types{
application/vnd.apple.mpegurl m3u8;
video/mp2t ts;
}
alias temp/hls;
expires -1;
}
}
}
```
# Start nginx
Option 1: File Explorer
1. Open your File Explorer
2. Navigate to your nginx folder. C:\Program Files\nginx\ in our example but go to where you have extracted
3. Launch `nginx.exe`. There is no output window that starts, nginx runs in the background. You can verify it's running by opening the Task Manager, going to Details, and looking for nginx.exe.
Option 2: Command prompt
1. Press Windows + R, type cmd, press Enter
2. Navigate to your nginx folder. C:\Program Files\nginx\ in our example but go to where you have extracted
3. Enter command `nginx.exe`. There is no output window that starts, nginx runs in the background. You can verify it's running by opening the Task Manager, going to Details, and looking for nginx.exe.
# Set up OBS for a new stream
* Open OBS
* Add a new "Media Source"
* Check "Local File" unchecked

# How to get an RTMP URL and Stream Key in LIV Hub
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-hub-and-liv-camera/guides/liv-hub/connecting-liv-hub-to-your-streaming-platform-how-to-get-rtmp-url-and-stream-key
Connecting LIV Hub to Your Streaming Platform
To live stream with **LIV Camera** to your social platform, you’ll need two critical pieces of information:
* **RTMP Server URL:** The address where your video stream is sent.
* **Stream Key:** A unique code that links your stream to your account. **Keep this key private and never share it publicly.**
In most manual streaming setups, you combine the RTMP URL and Stream Key as a single text entry. For example, for YouTube:
`rtmp://a.rtmp.youtube.com/live2/STREAM_KEY`
Enter this information on the \*\*Connect Socials \*\*page of the LIV Hub. Below are instructions on how to get your Stream Key for the most common platforms.
**RTMPS is not supported at this time.**
## YouTube Live
**Please note:** You can connect directly to YouTube through the LIV Hub - no need for manual RTMP.
YouTube provides a Stream Key and RTMP URL through its Live Control Room. Select the key that you want to use for your LIV streams.
* **Where to find it:** YouTube Studio → Create → **Go Live** → Stream Settings
* **Note:** You can reuse the same stream key or generate a new one for each event.
* When you enter the RTMP URL in LIV Hub Manual Connect Socials, enter **rtmp\://YOURSTREAMURL/YOURSTREAMKEY**
**Official YouTube Guides:**\
• [Get your RTMP URL on YouTube](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/10364924)\
• [Get your Stream Key](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2907883)
## Twitch
**Please note:** You can connect directly to Twitch through the LIV Hub - no need for manual RTMP.
Twitch provides a persistent stream key tied directly to your account.
* **Where to find it:** Creator Dashboard → Settings → Stream
* **Note:** You typically only need the Stream Key; the RTMP server is standard: `rtmp://live.twitch.tv/app/`
* When you enter the RTMP URL in LIV Hub Manual Connect Socials, enter rtmp\://YOURSTREAMURL/YOURSTREAMKEY
**Official Twitch Guide:** [Find Your Twitch Stream Key](https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/twitch-stream-key-faq?language=en_US)
## TikTok Live
TikTok requires eligibility for RTMP streaming (usually through TikTok Live Studio or Creator Tools).
* If eligible, you’ll see the **“Live Center”** or **“Go Live”** option on desktop TikTok or in the mobile app under Creator Tools. From there, retrieve your RTMP URL and Stream Key.
* TikTok stream keys are unique to each live session — you’ll need to repeat this process every time you go live.
* **⚠️ LIV does not provide a stream key.** Not all accounts have access to TikTok Live.
**Official TikTok Guide:** [Getting Your TikTok Stream Key](https://support.tiktok.com/en/live-gifts-wallet/tiktok-live/what-is-tiktok-live)
## Kick
**Kick only offers RTMPS, which isn’t supported at this time.** However, here’s how you can locate your information:
* Log into the [Kick.com](http://Kick.com) account you wish to stream from and visit your Creator Dashboard.
* Click the **“Channel”** menu item.
* Click **“Stream URL and Key.”**
**Official Kick Guide:** [Getting Your Kick Stream Key](https://help.kick.com/en/articles/7066931-how-to-stream-on-kick-com)
## Important Reminders
* **Keep your stream key private.** Anyone with access can stream to your account.
* Most platforms allow you to **reset your stream key** if it’s ever compromised.
* Always double-check which stream key you’re using, especially if you manage multiple channels or platforms.

# How do I reduce stream latency?
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-hub-and-liv-camera/guides/liv-hub/how-do-i-reduce-stream-latency
Improve stream latency
## What is Stream Latency?
**Stream latency** is the delay between when something happens in your stream (e.g., you speak, move, or perform an action) and when your viewers see it on their screens. This delay is measured in seconds and affects how quickly you can interact with your audience through chat, polls, and real-time reactions.
### Why Does Latency Happen?
Latency occurs because your stream goes through several steps before reaching viewers:
1. **Your camera/microphone** captures video and audio
2. **Your encoder** (OBS, Streamlabs, etc.) compresses the media
3. **Your internet** uploads it to the streaming platform
4. **The platform** (YouTube/Twitch) processes and distributes it
5. **The viewer's internet** downloads the stream
6. **The viewer's player** buffers and displays it
Each step adds a small amount of delay. The total latency is the sum of all these delays.
### Types of Latency
* **Ultra-Low Latency**: 2-5 seconds (best for interactive streams)
* **Low Latency**: 5-10 seconds (good balance)
* **Normal Latency**: 10-60 seconds (most stable, highest quality)
***
## YouTube Stream Latency Settings
### Platform Settings (YouTube Studio)
YouTube offers three latency modes in YouTube Studio:
#### 1. Ultra-Low Latency
* **Delay**: Less than 5 seconds
* **Best for**: Interactive streams, Q\&A sessions, live tutorials
* **Limitations**:
* Does not support 4K resolution (1080p maximum)
* Higher chance of viewer buffering
* Network issues affect viewers more
#### 2. Low Latency
* **Delay**: Less than 10 seconds
* **Best for**: Gaming streams, casual chat interaction
* **Limitations**: Some increased buffering risk
#### 3. Normal Latency
* **Delay**: 15-60 seconds
* **Best for**: Recorded content, presentations without live interaction
* **Benefits**: Highest quality, most stable, lowest buffering
### How to Adjust Latency in YouTube Studio
1. Go to **YouTube Studio**
2. Click **Create** > **Go Live** (top right)
3. On the right menu, click **Stream** or **Manage**
4. Click **Stream Settings**
5. Under **Stream Latency**, select your preferred option
6. **Note**: You cannot change latency once streaming has started
***
## Twitch Stream Latency Settings
### Platform Settings (Creator Dashboard)
Twitch offers two latency modes:
#### 1. Low Latency Mode (Default)
* **Delay**: 2-5 seconds
* **Best for**: Interactive streams, chat engagement
* **Default**: Enabled by default on most channels
* **Note**: May cause buffering for viewers with slow internet
#### 2. Normal Latency Mode
* **Delay**: 10-15 seconds
* **Best for**: Gameplay-focused streams, viewers with slower connections
* **Benefits**: More stable playback, less buffering
### How to Adjust Latency on Twitch
1. Click your **profile picture** (top right)
2. Select **Creator Dashboard**
3. Go to **Settings** > **Stream**
4. Scroll to **Latency Mode** (under Stream Key & Preferences)
5. Select **Low Latency** or **Normal Latency**
6. Changes take effect on your next stream
***
## Network Optimization
Your internet connection is critical for low-latency streaming.
### 1. WiFi is slow
* WiFi is unstable and adds latency
* Ethernet provides consistent speeds with lower ping
### 2. Test Your Upload Speed
* Use [speedtest.net](http://speedtest.net) to check upload speed
* Ensure upload speed is **at least 1.5x your bitrate**
* Example: For 6000 kbps stream, you need 9+ Mbps upload
### 3. Select the Closest Server
**Twitch**: Use the [Twitch Bandwidth Test](https://r1ch.net/projects/twitchtest) to find the server with:
* Lowest RTT (Round Trip Time)
* Highest quality rating
* Sufficient bandwidth
**YouTube**: Usually auto-selects, but you can specify in advanced settings
***
## Additional Optimizations
### Disable DVR (YouTube)
Disabling DVR may slightly reduce latency, though the impact is minimal. DVR allows viewers to rewind during your stream.
### Lower Resolution/Frame Rate
If you're experiencing high latency or buffering:
* Drop from 1080p to 720p
* Drop from 60fps to 30fps
* This reduces bandwidth requirements and processing time
### Test Privately
Before going live publicly:
* Stream privately to test settings
* Check "Stats for Nerds" (YouTube) or stream stats (Twitch)
* Ask friends to watch and report their experience
* Adjust settings based on feedback
***
## Platform-Specific Tips
### YouTube-Specific
* **Stream Health**: Monitor in YouTube Studio during stream
* **Right-click on video** > **Stats for Nerds** to see live latency
### Twitch-Specific
* **Transcoding**: Partners get guaranteed transcoding (quality options for viewers)
* **Non-partners**: May not get transcoding, so choose bitrate carefully
* **Latency Metric**: Check "Latency to Broadcaster" in Stream Manager stats
* **Target**: 5-10 seconds is normal for low latency mode
* **Stream Delay**: Partners can add artificial delay (Settings > Stream Manager > Add Stream Delay)
***
### Understanding Realistic Expectations
Even with optimal settings:
* **YouTube Ultra-Low**: 3-5 seconds is typical
* **Twitch Low Latency**: 2-5 seconds is typical
* Some delay is inherent to encoding and transmission
* You cannot eliminate latency entirely

**Age**: You must be at least 16 years old to live stream on your own.\
**Channel Verification**: Your channel must be verified, usually by phone number, in YouTube Studio.\
**No Restrictions**: You must not have any live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days.\
**24-Hour Wait**: After enabling and verifying for live streaming, there is often a 24-hour waiting period before you can go live for the first time.
2. **Verify that your YouTube account has been setup and enabled for Live Streaming. Your YouTube must be eligible in order to stream.**\
Sign in to YouTube and go to [YouTube Studio](https://studio.youtube.com/).\
Navigate to **Settings**, then **Channel**, and select Feature eligibility.\
Verify that Intermediate features level 2 is **enabled**.\
YouTube account has been enabled for at **least 24 hours**
3. Select to Connect
4. Select YouTube. A browser window will be opened.
5. Log into your YouTube account or select the YouTube account you want to stream to, if presented
6. **Ensure you've granted permission for LIV Hub to have access to your YouTube account when you connected.** If you didn't, you may have to disconnect and start again. If needed, you can reset your LIV Hub and YouTube account link at [https://myaccount.google.com/connections](https://myaccount.google.com/connections)
7. You're now connected to YouTube
## Twitch
1. Confirm that you have an eligible account with Twitch
2. Select to Connect
3. Select Twitch. A browser window will be opened.
4. Log into your Twitch account
5. Confirm permission
6. You're now connected to Twitch

# How to stream to TikTok
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-hub-and-liv-camera/guides/liv-hub/how-to-stream-to-tik-tok
Connect to TikTok with RTMP
TikTok is not supported by LIV Hub. TikTok does not provide a way to connect to their streaming services. If you would like integrated support, contact TikTok asking them to build the APIs.
This method is a workaround using RTMP
LIV **does not** provide stream keys for any social platform
# How to get a TikTok RTMP Stream Key
1. Ensure your TikTok account is eligible to Live Stream
2. Go to [TikTok Live Center](https://livecenter.tiktok.com/)
1. If you see a Go LIVE button on the left, your TikTok account has been enabled with a Stream Key
2. If you don't see the Go LIVE button, TikTok has not given you access.
3. If you do have the stream key, you'll need to go live first in TikTok Live Center
4. Once live, the Stream Key and RTMP URL will be available to copy into LIV Hub
[Set up a manual RTMP connection in LIV Hub](/liv-hub-and-liv-camera/guides/liv-hub/how-to-add-rtmp-and-stream-key-to-liv-hub)
# Going live with Restream
1. Make a restream account [https://app.restream.io/home](https://app.restream.io/home)
2. Connect TikTok to your, it will send you to an application page that you have to fill out. It may take a while before your account is approved.
3. Click 'new stream' on your home page in Restream.
4. Select encoder | RTMP
5. Copy and paste the URL and the Stream Key into the manual connection setup of LIV Hub. Don't forget to add a slash after the URL. So essentially this format: rtmp\://live.restream.io/live/**privatestreamkey**
6. Go live thru headset streaming or a LIV camera
# How to stream using the In-Game LIV Camera (Example Gorilla Tag)
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-hub-and-liv-camera/guides/liv-hub/how-to-stream-using-the-in-game-liv-camera-example-gorilla-tag
Using the LIV Camera in Gorilla Tag to live stream without a PC or mobile
Go live directly from the Quest headset to a player’s YouTube, Twitch, or platform of choice using an RTMP URL. No need for a PC or casting to another device.
In-game camera streaming uses the view from the **LIV camera** inside the game.
We'll use **Gorilla Tag** as an example. Each game may have a slightly different experience depending on how the developer implemented the camera system. Read below or watch the tutorial video.
## Gorilla Tag, for example
The tablet will have a new toggle (at the top left in this case) to switch between **Camera Mode** and **Live Streaming Mode**. The **Settings** button at the bottom opens the LIV Hub 2D app.
If you haven’t yet linked your camera to the LIV Hub yet, you’ll be presented a link code.
You may need to close Gorilla Tag and Re-open it to see the link code again
Once in LIV Hub, go to the LIV Camera Games page and Pair Game
Enter the 6 digit code preesnted in the game
Select **Connect Socials** on the left side menu
Select **YouTube**, **Twitch**, or [Manual](/liv-hub-and-liv-camera/guides/liv-hub/how-to-add-rtmp-and-stream-key-to-liv-hub). **TikTok** is supported through **manual RTMP entry**.
Connect.
Everything is now set up.
Return to **Gorilla Tag** to start streaming by pressing **Stop**.
# How do I pair my game to LIV Hub?
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-hub-and-liv-camera/guides/liv-hub/pair-game
Pair your game to LIV Hub
Pairing your game to LIV Hub is required for LIV Camera streaming. Depending on the game, the process will be different according to how they added the streaming capability.
To use the advanced features of the LIV Camera within a game, you'll need to link the game to the LIV Hub. [Download LIV Hub on the Meta Quest store](https://www.meta.com/experiences/24199129276346881/).
If you've uninstalled the app, you'll have to re-pair the app to LIV Hub.
**This step must be done for each game and may differ depending how the game has chosen to add the camera.**
1. Within the LIV Camera in the game, initiate the linking process.
2. A code will be displayed
3. Open LIV Hub
4. Navigate to LIV Camera Games -> Pair Game
5. Enter the code
6. Your LIV Camera is now linked
## Gorilla Tag, for example
The tablet will have a new toggle (at the top left in this case) to switch between camera mode and live streaming mode.
If you haven’t yet linked your camera to the LIV Hub yet, you’ll be presented a link code.
You may need to close Gorilla Tag and Re-open it to see the link code again
Once in LIV Hub, go to the LIV Camera Games page and Pair Game

# Games not yet supporting LIV Camera streaming

# What is the LIV Camera Kit (LCK)?

Developers add LIV Camera Kit to their games
The **LIV Camera Kit (LCK)** (formerly LIV Creator Kit) is a flexible, modular, and lightweight SDK that allows users to record and stream themselves directly within your VR game or app.
LCK is **100% free for all game developers**. For other uses, please [contact us](https://www.liv.tv/contact).
The SDK includes a **plug-and-play camera prefab** that can be easily dragged and dropped into any compatible project, as well as a **fully featured scripting API** for developers who want to create custom camera prefabs or systems.
Unlike traditional LIV, which requires PCVR and external setup, LCK works natively in both Quest and PCVR games. The camera can be added to any VR game by the developer of that game.
Players and content creators do not need to download or install LCK. It is not a mod.
## Want LCK in your favorite game?

Low memory error
**Issue**: LIV Hub crashes and I get an error "Low memory, there is not enough memory to run LIV Hub"
**Cause**: This crash primarily happens on Quest 2 devices. The Quest 2 does not have enough memory to run heavier/bigger games and stream at the same time.
This crash may happen on Quest 3 or 3s, but less frequently.
**Solution**: There is no solution as the Quest 2 is limited in capabilities.
**Work arounds**:

* Close any background apps
* Ensure your device and game are fully updated
* Uninstall and reinstall the game
* You could also attempt a hard reboot
* Update your Meta OS

Viewers can't hear me
**Problem**: When using headset streaming via LIV Hub, viewers can't hear you.
**Cause**: Some games currently experience issues when trying to stream both **game audio** and **microphone audio** at the same time. This limitation is caused by restrictions within the Android/Meta OS.
* In some cases, both game and mic audio may appear to stream successfully — however, only the **game audio** is actually heard in the live stream.
* When both are enabled, the **in-game microphone** may stop working, meaning other players cannot hear you in multiplayer chat.
**Solution**: Unfortunately, there is no fix available at this time as we're restricted by Meta Quest OS and Android

**Potential Causes**:
* You're not connected or lost connection to the internet
* You have weak or unstable internet connection. In order to stream, the LIV Camera must have a strong, consistent connection.
* The LIV servers are down
**Known workarounds**:
* Reconnect to the internet
* Improve your internet connection to your headset. For example, move closer to your WiFi router, have less devices connected to the router

Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/faq/android-phone-camera
**Is it currently possible to use an Android phone in place of the camera?**
There are some third party apps that have been reported to work, but none are officially supported.
You will still need a greenscreen for this.
# What camera resolution do I choose?
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/faq/camera-resolution
This might sound redundant, but you want to make sure you choose the highest resolution available to you, as LIV will otherwise stretch your video stream to fit the canvas. A higher camera resolution will also help improve chroma key quality.
Decode modes we support:
**YUY2** - 4:2:2 color space, uncompressed data stream
High bandwidth over USB, but has minimal system load. May not support higher resolution options depending on your camera/USB ports.
**MJPEG** - 4:2:0, 4:4:4, or 4:2:2, compressed data stream
Has lower bandwidth over USB, but requires your CPU to decode the video stream. This will increase CPU load by a significant amount. If you have the CPU power to spare and/or you can't select a high resolution with YUY2, this is for you!

# Can I use LIV without a camera?
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/faq/liv-without-a-camera
If you want to record mixed reality, you will need some form of a camera to capture yourself with. You can use any modern webcam/DSLR+CC combo, an Xbox One/Azure Kinect.
If you can't get hold of a camera, you can still use LIV's Avatar Capture to capture yourself as any avatar in .avatar or .vrm format.
# Can I use LIV without a green screen
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/faq/liv-without-green-screen
Yes, you can! You have a few options listed below:
* Mixed Reality with an **Xbox One/Azure Kinect** depth camera
* Avatar capture with [LIV Avatars](https://help.liv.tv/hc/en-us/sections/360004620060-LIV-Avatars) (no physical camera, green screen nor extra trackers needed).
* Nvidia Broadcast built directly into the LIV app - [Beta - Mixed reality without a greenscreen with Nvidia GPUs](https://help.liv.tv/hc/en-us/articles/23019163869458-BETA-Mixed-Reality-without-a-green-screen-with-Nvidia-GPUs)
* [NVIDIA Broadcast](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/broadcasting/broadcast-app/) Uses Turing/Ampere/Ada Tensor cores to do ML body isolation The new NVIDIA Broadcast app does a pretty good job at background removal for people who have RTX cards. Select your camera in NVIDIA Broadcast and then in LIV select the NVIDIA Broadcast webcam and select a resolution from the ARGB mode.
Note: You must use ARGB mode

# What PC specifications do I need to use LIV SteamVR app?
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/faq/pc-specs
LIV's performance is dependent on two things: your own hardware and how well optimized the game you're capturing is.
# Minimum specifications for LIV
GPU: NVIDIA 2060 or AMD equivalent. CPU: latest Intel i5 or AMD equivalent.
A minimum spec system might suffer when trying to capture less optimized or more graphically demanding games.
# Recommended specifications for LIV
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070 or AMD equivalent. CPU: Intel i7 or AMD equivalent.

# First-Person Stabilizer Setup
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/first-person-stabilizer/first-person-stabilizer-set-up
How to get started with the Beta
First-Person Stabilizer is in experiment Beta state and is prone to not working. Further improvements are not expected at this time.
Games running OpenXR or using Easy Anti-Cheat will not work at this time.
[Download LIV from the Steam store](https://store.steampowered.com/app/755540/LIV/). After launching the LIV app click
1. **Select First Person Stabilizer**
2. **Launch First Person Stabilizer**
You can launch Smoothed FPV before or after starting a game.
Features include:
* Low/med/high smoothing presets
* Set your own custom zoom+smoothing combination
* Left/right eye pick, combined eye
* Roll lock
How you open the menu depends on what you select in [General settings](/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/general-settings)
Once you have launched Smoothed FPV you can change the settings by opening the LIV Menu, to open the LIV Menu you can either
**SteamVR Dashboard**\
**-** To open the LIV menu you will need to open the SteamVR dashboard by pressing the system button on the controller. Then click on the LIV icon on the SteamVR dashboard toolbar.
*or*
**Floor**\
**-** By pointing your controller and hovering the green dot over the LIV icon until it fills up in green. You do the same to exit out of the interface.
**-** Resolution & aspect ratio settings have been added to the first-person stabilizer. Whatever you set gets remembered, and you can double-click the window to go fullscreen!
**-** Along with that, both eyes are now composited and smoothed together, meaning more pixels for you to see!
**-** Game looks too dark in the first-person stabilizer? Enable the ""Gamma Fix"" checkbox and brighten it back up to normal.
To capture the Smoothed FPV in your broadcasting software, add VIVR.exe as a game capture source.
This capture method does **not** require an SDK, and works with any OpenVR game! So far we've seen this used with Population One, Contractors and many more.
The GPU or CPU cost is negligible since it basically just does a texture copy and a single shader pass.
Games running OpenXR or using Easy Anti-Cheat will not work at this time.
# First Person Stabilizer Troubleshooting
## The compositor is black, no video shown
This error generally means the game is not compatible.
In order for this experimental first person stabilizer to work;
* The game must be OpenXR
* Not use Easy Anti-Cheat or similar
# Experimental OpenXR support for First Person Stabilizer
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/first-person-stabilizer/openxr-support
This is an **experimental feature** that allows OpenXR-based games to work with the **First Person Stabilizer**. Since it’s still in testing, we’d love your feedback—please open a support ticket or share your results in the LIV Discord. Let us know which OpenXR games it works with and which it doesn’t.
### **Important:** You must be on the **“latest” beta branch** to enable or disable this feature. Leaving it enabled may cause crashes on start with incompatible games.
**1**) After launching the LIV desktop app, select First Person Stabilizer
**2**) Check the box ""Enable experimental OpenXR Stabilizer"" prior to launching the game.

# Audio latency
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/audio-latency
After doing calibration and getting your latency set, note the number your latency is set to so that you can carry that over to OBS.
Open OBS Advanced Audio Properties, click the click the 3 dots to open the menu then select Advanced Audio Properties.
OBS > Advanced Audio Properties > add the number you took from setting your latency to the Sync Offset section.
You may also need to do the same with your mic.
# How To stream LIV on Discord with Audio
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/discord-stream
# Method 1: OBS VirtualCam
Streaming your LIV output on Discord won't produce audio on its own as LIV doesn't process sound. While you *could* solve this through audio routing, the easiest method is to use the OBS VirtualCam tool.
If you're not on the latest version of OBS (v26+), you will need to install VirtualCam separately as a plugin from [GitHub](https://github.com/CatxFish/obs-virtual-cam).
With the plugin installed:
1. Go Live on Discord with the game window. This is where your sound will come from.
2. Add LIV as a source to your OBS scene (make sure to use Game Capture), then hit Tools > VirtualCam. Take note of the target camera and hit **Start**.
3. Select that OBS-Camera device as your video camera in your Voice & Video settings on Discord, then go live with video as well.
You will now have two streams running simultaneously: one with your first-person view (for sound) and one with LIV. Discord will keep the video streams synchronized surprisingly well, and it makes for a pretty good streaming experience.
# Method 2: LIV Discord Audio toggle
You can now stream LIV directly to Discord with audio!
* Capture a game with LIV, auto or manual
* Under the Auto/Manual tab, toggle the Discord Audio button to turn it off or on
* On Discord, "Go Live" in a voice channel, and select the LIV Output (capture.exe) to stream your game!
**Things to know:**
* Über experimental, may not work as we intended
* It introduces an infinitesimally small amount of audio delay "*Ruu: as a rhythm game player, I can attest it's "nearly perfect", as in, I literally can't tell it's on. We just haven't measured it yet, because we've not needed to.*"
* We're injecting a bit of code into your game to make this work, which is similar to how OBS and Discord do it; this is beta software, you might experience crashes!
**If your audio becomes "crunchy" you can toggle the checkbox to re-initialize the system.**

# How To Improve Performance With LIV
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/improve-performance
Despite our best efforts to make LIV as lean as possible on your already overburdened systems, some of you may still experience performance issues. It could be that your PC hardware just isn't powerful enough to do VR & LIV together - However, there are a few settings that could (*and should!*) be tweaked, if possible.
LIV's performance cost is directly related to the game's cost. LIV renders another viewport, then once more for the foreground (where it will only draw pixels between the player and camera). It's about as optimized as we can get it while compositing the result outside of the game.\
\
You might find that LIV just puts the game over its frametime budget, making it feel significantly worse, which is why we advise anyone filming with LIV to lower the HMD's render resolution in order to get a smoother result overall. This will *not* affect the resolution of the LIV output as LIV captures footage from its own camera, rather than from what your HMD sees.
**High Impact**
* Double-check that your SteamVR render resolution is on Custom and set to 100%. You typically don't want to be supersampling when using LIV (although you technically could, with the right hardware), but you *especially* don't want to let SteamVR auto-supersample for you as its algorithm doesn't account for LIV running alongside your game.
* Lower LIV's target resolution. This is the resolution LIV will be rendering at and has a significant impact on performance.
* Set the vrserver, vrcompositor, vrmonitor, and OBS processes to high priority in Windows Task Manager → Details.
**Medium Impact**
* Change the encoder in OBS from x264 to NVENC. This greatly reduces the load on your CPU.
* If you're using Streamlabs OBS (SLOBS) to capture the LIV output, consider switching to regular OBS as SLOBS' CPU usage is significantly higher.
* Make sure you use "Game Capture" to capture the LIV output window as it is the most performant capture option. From most performant to least: Game Capture > Window Capture >>> Display Capture.
* If you're using a Kinect as a camera source, ChromaFree (our tool for background removal) is a bit heavy on your CPU/GPU and is still undergoing some optimization on our end.
**Low Impact**
* An unoptimized avatar will cause some extra load. You can test this by switching between your avatar and one of the default LIV ones.
While not directly related to performance, storing an excessive amount of avatars can cause extremely long compositor loading times (we've had reports of it taking up to 1 minute).
**Game-Specific Settings**
* **Beat Saber** Lower the desktop mirror quality Disable smoke Disable MSAA

# How to use your Meta Quest with LIV
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/meta-quest-with-liv
There are a few ways to access LIV on your PC:\
*Note: Games from the Meta store will not work*
**Virtual Desktop**: This is third-party software that costs \$20. It provides high quality remote access to your PC from VR headsets. With Virtual Desktop, you can wirelessly view and interact with your computer from inside your headset. This is a great option for using LIV.
**Airlink or Link cable:** This free built-in feature lets you access your PC directly from your Quest headset. Airlink/Link cable offers basic desktop functionality. However, it has fewer customizable options compared to Virtual Desktop. Airlink/Link cable works for basic LIV usage, but Virtual Desktop is recommended for the best experience.
**Steam link:** Steam Link streams the games you love in your Steam library directly from your computer to your Meta Quest headset. Using the power of your computer, it delivers a high-fidelity and intuitive way to wirelessly play your favorite games, discuss them with your friends, and access your desktop apps. To get started, download and install Steam Link onto your headset. It will walk you through wirelessly connecting to your computer located on the same network as your headset with Steam installed and running.

# How to optimally capture LIV
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/record-liv-capture
The most commonly used software for video recording and streaming is **Open Broadcaster Software (OBS)**. It's the most lightweight capturing tool out there, and it's also really easy to set up! We strongly recommend it.
They have a very well written wiki on how to quickly get started:[https://obsproject.com/wiki/OBS-Studio-Overview](https://obsproject.com/wiki/OBS-Studio-Overview)
Capturing LIV with OBS couldn't be easier. Simply add a new "Game Capture" source to your scene and target the LIV output. Resize the window to fit your frame and voilà, you're good to go
After downloading and setting up OBS [https://obsproject.com/download](https://obsproject.com/download) [https://obsproject.com/help](https://obsproject.com/help) you will need to add LIV as a source, in the Sources box click the + sign in that location.
It will bring up a new menu and you want to select Game Capture
Click ok after selecting Game capture
Next you will need to select the mode, click the gear cog to open properties for the selected source then in the drop down menu labeled Mode, select **Capture specific window**
In the Window drop down menu select **\[capture.exe]: LIV Output**
After that click ok.
You should be ready to start recording or streaming now 😊

Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/rotatoexpress
A tool to rotate your playspace, allowing you to create Mixed Reality recording where the camera appears to orbit around the player.
# How it works
Upon startup, this program caches the current playspace transform from OpenVR. The UI allows you to specify a rotation speed, and to offset the center. The rotation is locked by default, you will need to uncheck that.
# Safety
This program maniuplate the Chaperone safety system of SteamVR in real time. It also add movement visible in the headset that do not match the real position of the headset. **This needs to be used with care.**

OpenXR is becoming more popular and non-SteamVR native headset (All Oculus, WMR, Pimax, Varjo, etc, headsets) and LIV currently requires SteamVR to properly function for both LIV Capture and LIV StreamerKit products You can set SteamVR to be your OpenXR compositor by following these steps, and then LIV Capture and LIV Streamerkit will continue to work.
SteamVR settings -> Make sure Advanced Settings is set to Show -> Developer -> Current OpenXR Runtime: SteamVR
# Open SteamVR Settings:
# Select OpenXR:
# Select "SET STEAMVR AS OPENXR RUNTIME":
# Tracker power up sequence
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/tracker-power-up
1. Right click Steam icon in desk tray, pick SteamVR. Wait until you see it started up.
2. Power on BOTH controllers. Wait until they both have green lights.
3. Power through all your trackers one by one waiting for the next one until the previous units light is green.
At this point, if you have assigned your trackers all correctly in SteamVR all apps should work correctly.
If you desire to change to a second set of controllers during a sessions of VR, SteamVR does NOT allow for this procedure currently in it's native configuration. You'll need to shut down SteamVR , and then follow the instructions above, but with the new set of controllers.
On the other hand, pucks/trackers can be powered off and replaced mid stream by:
1. Is the tracker currently powered or has it run out of battery already?
1. POWERED: Cover the tracker / hide it from lighthouse view, and watch the SteamVR panel, the one that turns grey is that tracker. Right click it and pick turn off.
2. NO POWER: Skip this step.
2. Turn on the new tracker wait for green light.
3. Go into Tracker Assignment and assign the new (green icon) tracker to the position you replaced (knee/foot/whatever)
# URI Commands for LIV PCVR Camera
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/uri-camera-commans
Trigger camera, profile changes via script or chat command
# **What are URI Scheme Commands?**
Long story short, they are URLs that are invokable as "shell commands" in Windows. As long as LIV is installed, and has been run once on a system, these commands will work when called from anywhere. Some commands will automatically start LIV, and boot LIV Capture. Some commands won't do anything if LIV is not already running and active.
You can call them manually, using the Windows "Run" prompt (Win+R).
You may also create shortcuts to these commands using Windows Explorer:`New -> Shortcut`, then enter your command. You can then create a hotkey for that shortcut by modifying its properties.
Behind the scenes, LIV registers itself as a URI Scheme handler for the `liv-app` "protocol". When Windows is asked to execute a URI as a shell command, it will look for a registered handler, and then start that program. When LIV is already running, a second instance of LIV is loaded - it then sends the command to the first instance of LIV before closing itself.
Naturally, this process takes some time. We don't recommend using this interface for high-frequency control of LIV.
# **URI Commands - Cameras**
These commands interact with LIV Capture for PCVR. These commands will not automatically launch LIV Capture if LIV is not already running.
#### `liv-app://camera/set/`
EG.`liv-app://camera/set/2`
Changes the currently active camera in LIV. The index is the number of the camera in the camera list, starting from 0. If you provide a camera index that is "out of bounds", the command will be ignored.
You may re-order cameras in LIV by modifying the configuration file in `%localappdata%\LIV\App` - modify the `CompositorBasic.CameraProfiles` array.
#### `liv-app://camera/set/fovOverride/`
EG. `liv-app://camera/set/fovOverride/43.5`
Sets the current camera's FoV override value.
Set the FoV to 0 to clear the override.
Has no effect on avatar cameras; see avatar camera plugins.
#### `liv-app://camera/add/fovOverride/`
EG. `liv-app://camera/add/fovOverride/-1.5`
Adds to the current camera's FoV override value.
If no override is set, it will use the camera's native FoV, then add to it as the override.
Has no effect on avatar cameras; see avatar camera plugins.
#### `liv-app://camera/toggle/freeze`
If you are using LIV with a tracked camera (IE. You have a SteamVR tracker attached to a camera) and you are not moving it, you can temporarily freeze it in place.
This command toggles the camera's frozen state.
# **URI Commands - Controlling LIV**
All of the below commands will launch LIV if it is not running, then execute the command.
#### `liv-app://launch/compositor`
Starts PCVR Capture if not already running.
#### `liv-app://launch/streamerkit`
Starts LIV StreamerKit.
#### `liv-app://focus/app`
Brings LIV into the foreground.
#### `liv-app://capture/manual/pid/`
EG. `liv-app://capture/manual/pid/1337`
Starts PCVR Capture if not already running, then switches to manual capture mode and attempts to capture the process ID given.
#### `liv-app://launch/steam/`
EG. `liv-app://launch/steam/1098100`
Starts PCVR Capture if not already running, then switches to auto capture mode and launches the Steam game provided. Will not launch Steam games that are not detected by LIV. See the [command line](https://docs.liv.tv/liv-app-api#liv-app-api/command-line) documentation for how to get a list of installed LIV games.\
Once the game is loaded, LIV will automatically begin capturing it.
#### `liv-app://launch/viveport/`
EG. `liv-app://launch/viveport/8fd7deb0-64d8-48b1-bd44-87db84f37de8`
Starts PCVR Capture if not already running, then switches to auto capture mode and launches the Viveport game provided. Will not launch Viveport games that are not detected by LIV. See the [command line](https://docs.liv.tv/liv-app-api#liv-app-api/command-line) documentation for how to get a list of installed LIV games.\
Once the game is loaded, LIV will automatically begin capturing it.

Sometimes files get corrupted, or dependencies go missing, which can cause LIV to not function properly. Verifying LIV's contents on Steam can help with that!
Here's how you do it:
* Close SteamVR and LIV
* Navigate to your Steam library
* Find LIV
* Go to Properties → Local Files
* Then “Verify integrity of game cache"

# Avatar best practices
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/avatar-best-practices
# Abstract
This document focuses on summarizing best known practices for creating avatars which work with the current LIV version. LIV supports two formats **.avatars** and **VRM**. Each format has its pros and cons. VRM avatars can be created by avatar creation software like **VRoid** and there are many you can download. The .avatar format may be known by Beat Saber players using the Custom Avatars plugin by Nicoco007. Note that avatars created for LIV won’t be compatible with Beat Saber.
# .Avatar Format
Certain old Beat Saber avatars in the .avatar format will work with LIV but many of those are not properly set up and often do not have full body tracking setup and thus only the head and hands will be tracked. Certain Beat Saber shaders do not work in LIV (Ikeiwa’s Uber and Tach’s Complete Beat Saber Shader are known not to work). It is recommended thus to compile your own avatar for the use in LIV using non-Beat Saber shaders.
### Where to get avatars
You can find both free or paid avatars on the internet. [https://gumroad.com/](https://gumroad.com/) and [http://booth.pm](http://booth.pm) are two popular sites where people get avatars. You can also commission an avatar or create your own with tools like VRoid ([https://vroid.com/studio](https://vroid.com/studio)) which do not require any 3d modeling knowledge.
The avatar should contain the actual 3d model of the avatar, a humanoid rig (skeleton that will make the avatar move), and materials/textures. Easiest way to look for avatars ready for VR is to look for VRChat avatars.
Avatars will be often provided in Unity packages (.unitypackage) that are ready to be imported into Unity with everything set up for VRChat. You can also find avatars in FBX or VRM format.
In order to create an avatar file format you will need the rigged avatar in FBX format with textures (which do not need to be included in the file, by default they aren’t).
If you have an avatar in Unity package you will first need to import it into a project containing what the avatar needs (for example the Avatars SDK3 for PhysBones, custom shader if the avatar uses one like Poiyomi). The avatar description should have written what Unity build it was built with and what needs to be imported into Unity first before importing this specific avatar.
If the avatar is old and was made with either SDK2 or SDK3 in Unity Build 2018.4.20f1 you can directly import this avatar into the LIV project to create the LIV avatar as anything used (except PhysBones script from SDK3) is compatible. If the avatar is already done with any 2019 Unity build you will have to set up the avatar from the beginning yourself in a 2018 Unity build.
### Creating custom avatars
The avatar creation process is similar to Nicoco007 Custom Avatars one.\
Video tutorial
### Setup in steps
1. Get a 3d model with a humanoid rig. Check that the model is in proper t-pose, at position 0,0,0, and has a center between the avatar’s feet (that being the point 0,0,0). Create visemes and/or named them: v\_sil, v\_PP, v\_FF, v\_TH, v\_DD, v\_kk, v\_CH, v\_SS, v\_nn, v\_RR, v\_aa, v\_E, v\_I, v\_O, v\_U.
2. Download this Unity project -> [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YzJamlspmbri-bLa\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_MARe9sVZpBWaEVW/view?usp=sharing](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YzJamlspmbri-bLa\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_MARe9sVZpBWaEVW/view?usp=sharing)
3. Download **Unity 2018.4.11f1**
4. Unzip the project, add that folder in Unity Hub as a project, select Unity build that can run it.
5. Open the project and import your model via Import new asset.
6. Change the rig to Humanoid. Fix any errors marked in red or unassign bones that are not properly assigned.
7. Extract materials and textures to a folder. Set up your materials with shaders of your choice and assign them.
8. Drag the model into the scene and place it at 0,0,0.
9. Create an empty game object at 0,0,0.
10. Drag the model into the empty object you created. Add Avatar Descriptor component to the empty object. Fill in the information.
11. You can add Dynamic Bone scripts and Dynamic Bones Collider scripts and set them up. ***The dynamic bones are in the customavatars.dll, don't load the assets from the asset store!.***
12. Export the avatar.
13. Import the compiled file into LIV or put it in /Documents/LIV/Avatars.
### Setup in more detail
1. In order to use Avatars you need a 3d model that is rigged with a human skeleton. You can either commission it or download one from sites like [booth.pm](http://booth.pm/) or [gumroad.com](http://gumroad.com/). To edit the avatar you can use Blender which is a free program and can be downloaded from [https://www.blender.org/download/.\\\\](https://www.blender.org/download/.\\\\) Import the avatar into Blender (this may require a certain plugin that allows Blender to import it), set it to t-pose, make sure it is rotated towards you (when you press 1) and that it has a center at its feet at 0,0,0. The model then should be exported as an FBX.\
If you want to use LipSync, rename the 15 Oculus Lipsync blendshapes. They need a specific name or rather end of the name. The names are: v\_sil, v\_PP, v\_FF, v\_TH, v\_DD, v\_kk, v\_CH, v\_SS, v\_nn, v\_RR, v\_aa, v\_E, v\_I, v\_O, v\_U.
2. Download Unity project -> [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YzJamlspmbri-bLa\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_MARe9sVZpBWaEVW/view?usp=sharing](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YzJamlspmbri-bLa\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_MARe9sVZpBWaEVW/view?usp=sharing)
3. Download a 2018 Unity build. Go to [http://unity3d.com](http://unity3d.com) and create an account if you already do not have one. Then download Unity Hub and download Unity that you will need for the LIV project. The recommended build is 2018.4.11f1 and can be downloaded from [http://unity3d.com/get-unity/download/archive](http://unity3d.com/get-unity/download/archive) or via Unity Hub. Unity build 2018.4.20f1 works as well.
4. The downloaded Unity project will need to be unzipped. It can be at any location. In Unity Hub, click on ‘ADD’ and choose the Unity project folder (you may need to change the Unity build to launch the project, if you won’t be using 2018.4.11f1).
5. Open the project. Click on **Assets** and **Import New Asset**. Find the exported FBX file and confirm.
6. Click on the FBX file in the Project window. In the Inspector window find a tab named ‘Rig’ and click on it. Change the Rig to ‘Humanoid’ and click on Apply. When Unity is done, click on Configure and check if correct bones are assigned.
7. Click on the tab Materials and extract both textures and materials (if they are included in the FBX file). Otherwise create materials in the Project window by right clicking and choosing Material. Import textures via **Asset >** **Import New Asset**.
8. Drag the model into the scene and place it at 0,0,0 coordinates facing you. Assign materials you created by dragging them onto the avatar (if you did not set them up in the inspector window).
9. Create an empty Game object in the Hierarchy window and place it at 0,0,0 coordinates.
10. Drag the model in the Hierarchy window and drop it into the empty Game object. Unpack the object so you can click on your avatar object (click on the little arrow, no need to ‘unpack in Unity terms’).
In the Inspector window, click on Add Component. Type Avatar Descriptor and add it. You can capture a thumbnail, or import one via Import new asset. Click on the imported image and change it to 2d and Sprite (2d and UI).
1. Many avatars come with extra bones that are used to make its clothes, hair or body parts move. For that you can use a script named Dynamic Bones that is already included in the customavatars.dll. You can add the Dynamic Bones script to any game object. Simply Add Component in the inspector window of the chosen game object and type Dynamic Bone. Drag the root bone of the bones you want to move into Root. Then you will have to set up the values below. You can play with these values while in Play mode (click on the Play button and then go back to Scene window). Here you can move the avatar around to see what effect the values have. When happy with the values, click on the small cogwheel of the Dynamic Bone script and copy the values. Stop the game and copy these values to the Dynamic Script (any changes in Play mode do not save).
2. Click on the Game Object you created and the Avatar Exporter window should appear. If it won’t you can click on Window and click on Avatar Exporter. It should show the window then. Click on Export and save it to your preferred location.
3. Run LIV. Launch Avatars capture, create an Avatar camera and drag the avatar into the LIV window. Alternatively copy the exported file into ../Documents/LIV/Avatars
### Supported features
Custom shaders
Dynamic bones and colliders
Lipsync
Eye gaze (bones)
### Known issues
Beat Saber uses the alpha channel for bloom effects, this corrupts the alpha channel and looks wrong in LIV or it won’t load at all will result in a green outline avatar. The Beat Saber shaders that come with Nicoco007’s project are converted into Standard shaders.The avatar may not look the way it was intended when loaded into LIV. Use a different shader.
When exporting an avatar to an already existing file, the avatar may not save. Choose a different output name.
When using certain versions of free or paid Poiyomi Shaders the avatar window may ‘disappear’. If this happens you can set up your materials and lock the shaders. After the shaders compile, they will be stored in the project as separate files. Keep these files and delete the Poiyomi Shaders folder. Version 7.2.41 and lower should work without any issues (if you use .NET 4.x).
If the project contains Dynamic Bone script, either from the Asset store or simply imported from a different project, the avatar won’t compile. Simply delete the folder named ‘Dynamic Bone’ script from the project. If these scripts were used instead of the ones in the CustomAvatars.dll the avatar’s Dynamic Bone scripts will become ‘Missing’. You will have to add them again.
When importing an avatar with dynamic bones they won’t be loaded because the script in customavatars.dll is treated as a different script. You will have to delete the missing scripts from the objects and add and set up the scripts again.
VRCPhysBones can move a single bone while Dynamic Bones cannot. When setting up Dynamic Bones of an avatar that has bones for PhysBones you will need to add an end bone to the single bones. This can be done in Unity, by adding an empty game object to the respective bones.
When importing an avatar set up in Unity 2019 and newer builds, when dragging it can show up blank. Projects done in newer Unity builds are not compatible with older Unity builds and there is no magical way to make them work. You have to recreate everything you need in the 2018 Unity.
# VRM Avatars
### Where to get VRM avatars
You can buy VRM avatars that provide the avatars in this format, for example [http://booth.pm](http://booth.pm). If you do not have any modeling experience you can still create one using a program like VRoid Studio which you can either download on Steam or from their site at [https://vroid.com/studio](https://vroid.com/studio).
### Creating VRM avatars
A video showing the conversion process using UniVRM [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAAsgLECwHE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAAsgLECwHE)
Any avatar can be converted into VRM format. There are two VRM formats, VRM 0 and VRM 1. Any VRM 0 file should work but some VRM 1 avatars may not work and will show up as green outline avatars in LIV. It is advised to keep the size below 64MB.
You will need a 3d model with a humanoid rig in an FBX format to convert it into VRM. The creation is done in Unity and the build will depend on the version of UniVRM you will use.
UniVRM can be downloaded at [https://github.com/vrm-c/UniVRM/releases](https://github.com/vrm-c/UniVRM/releases).
The export process is well documented at [https://vrm.dev/univrm/export/univrm\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_export.html](https://vrm.dev/univrm/export/univrm\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_export.html).
It requires you to create a new 3d project in Unity into which the UniVRM unity package is imported. Your avatar needs to be imported and set to humanoid rig. The materials can be configured but only VRM compatible shaders can be used **MToon**, **Unlit** (Unity) and **Standard** (Unity).
The avatar will need to be dragged into the scene and placed at 0,0,0. Then it can be exported for the first time by going to UniVRM -> Export Humanoid. After filling the data in and picking the correct root, the avatar will be converted into an unpacked VRM (you will see several folders with avatar, blendshapes, materials etc).
Find the VRM exported file and drag it into the scene and place it at 0,0,0. Hide the previous avatar so you can see how the VRM will look like. You can set blendshapes ([https://vrm.dev/univrm/blendshape/blendshape\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_setup.html](https://vrm.dev/univrm/blendshape/blendshape\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_setup.html)), VRM Spring Bones amd VRM Spring Bones Colliders ([https://vrm.dev/univrm/springbone/univrm\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_secondary.html](https://vrm.dev/univrm/springbone/univrm\\\\\\\\\\\\\\_secondary.html)), and VRMLookAt. The blendshapes needed for lipsync to work are A, I, U, E, O. Navigate to the \[model name].BlendShapes folder and click on one of the blendshape presets. After you click on it, click on BlendShape List in the inspector. Add what blendshape or blendshapes should form the preset. Choose what mesh they are on and then choose the blendshape you need (for LipSync all the vowel ones). Set the weight to 100 (or lower if you want). If the blendshapes require change of color or materials you can also set them up in Materials the same way (if you'd want the avatar’s face to turn red when angry for example).
After everything is set up, a second export can be done. This time you should pick a location outside of the Unity project as it will compile the avatar into one VRM file ready to be imported into LIV.
### Supported features
MToon, Standard and Unlit shaders
Visemes - lip sync
Spring bones
Eye gaze (either with blendshapes or bones)
### Unsupported features
Custom shaders
Audio clips
Animations
Particle systems
### Known Issues
Modified versions of VRM format do not work. LIV is not compatible with VSFAvatar.
Large files may not load. You can reduce the size of textures or join meshes (keep head separate) to reduce the size (or further optimize the 3d model).
Certain VRM files usually VRM 1 files give ‘Invalid magic error’. If you encounter this problem, import the file into Blender via VRM Importer plugin, export it as FBX and set it up again in Unity and export as VRM 0.
Transparency doesn’t work with a Standard shader.
# Ready Player Me avatars
You can get a free ready full body avatar for use in VR games at [http://readyplayer.me](http://readyplayer.me). The creation process is very simple so anyone can do it. A relatively unique avatar can be created with the free assets they offer. The avatar can be then downloaded or sent to you email address or directly imported into LIV if you will use the creation process from this site [https://liv.readyplayer.me/en/avatar](https://liv.readyplayer.me/en/avatar). No matter which version of ReadyPlayerMe avatar you will generate, all are compatible with LIV.
### Known Issues
Sometimes, very rarely, the import may fail. Try downloading the avatar and putting it directly into ../Documents/LIV/Avatars. If nothing you try helps you can always convert the GLB file into .avatar or VRM.
# FAQ
**I have a 3d model that is not rigged, can I still use it?**
While you cannot use it right away, you can rig it or get it rigged. If the avatar is fairly standard humanoid looking one you can use [https://www.mixamo.com/](https://www.mixamo.com/) to rig it for you. It requires an Adobe login, but the service is free.
**My avatar has bent knees?**
Many avatars you can download have very long legs. While you can manually edit calibration in LIV it may not be able to fix big differences in proportions of your body and the avatar’s body. The easiest way to fix the avatar is to edit it in Pose Mode in Blender. Take a picture of yourself in t-pose and import it into Blender as a background image. Click on the avatar’s armature and press CTRL+TAB. While this is primarily used to pose the avatar it can also be used to change the length of bones and the mesh ‘linked’ with the bones. You can scale the bones to do this (using the scale tool). By default scaling of bones is inherited, scaling one bone will scale other bones linked. You will need to set the Bone Inheritance to None under Bone settings of the specific bone. Once finished make sure, the avatar is at 0,0,0 position, with center at its feet. Then apply the pose as a rest pose (right click to bring up the menu).
**Can I convert a Beat Saber avatar to a LIV one?**
You cannot convert already compiled .avatar to another format. It has just that one single use for it was created. If you have the original file from which the avatar was created you can convert that to LIV .avatar format or VRM.
**Can I convert a VRChat avatar to a LIV one?**
Yes. Follow the instructions above.
**Can LIV receive VMC data?**
No. You can use LIV for camera and its camera plugins for mods but it cannot receive any data from VMC.
**Can I use PhysBones in LIV?**
No, you cannot. But PhysBones with some loss of information can be converted into Dynamic Bones that work in LIV. You can copy the values from the converted scripts and manually type them into the 2018 project (you may need to add end bones to some of the physbones).
Use this to convert the PhysBones to Dynamic Bones [https://github.com/FACS01-01/PhysBone-to-DynamicBone](https://github.com/FACS01-01/PhysBone-to-DynamicBone)
**Is there a way for my Beat Saber avatar to have sabers in fists instead of open palms?**
Yes. You can create a blendshape for fists in Blender (or Unity via pose manager) and export the avatar this way. Then find the blendshape in Unity and set it to 100%. The compiled avatar will then only appear with closed fists then though. It is advised to turn finger tracking off as it will mess the hands up.
**My VRM avatar has transparent parts?**
Certain shaders VRM uses may not render back faces and thus they will be seen as ‘invisible’ (see if there is a Cull Mode. By default the backside is not rendered. If there is a Cull Mode option you can choose which face will be rendered or to turn it off to render both sides. This can mess up the lighting on the model). If your model contains single faces that you want both sides to be seen you will have to make them ‘3d’. You can use the Solidify function in Blender for this for example. (Note that this will make the model way more complex).
Note: This should not be the case if you download a working avatar, but this can also happen if normals on the model are not correct (they can be recalculated or flipped in Blender).
**My avatar’s legs are bent inward (or outward)?**
The heads and tails of bones in avatar legs need to be in a straight line with the knees’ slightly moved forward.
**My avatar is misplaced when in game?**
This is usually caused by either the avatar or the parent game object not being positioned at 0,0,0 coordinates or that the center of the avatar is not at its feet.

After following the [setup guide](/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/avatar-startup-guide) to get LIV avatars working, open the **LIV App** and hit \*\*Launch Compositor. \*\*Click on the **MANUAL** tab.
Launch the game you want to play from the SteamVR UI in VR or the Steam desktop app. If using OBS, you will want to capture the game using **Game Capture** or [**OpenVR Capture**](https://github.com/baffler/OBS-OpenVR-Input-Plugin/releases). Capture the LIV App Output using **Game Capture** also. Next, open the properties for the LIV App Output and check the **Allow Transparency** box.
In OBS, you will want to make sure the LIV APP Output is listed above the game capture, as seen in the following screenshot.
\
If you are using **Streamlabs OBS** you want to follow the same steps as above.
If you are using **Twitch Studio** you will need click edit scene > Select the layer with the LIV output > Select Border and click the eye to show

# Camera Modes
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/camera-modes
Now that your avatar is all neat and clean, it's time to set up your virtual camera.
1. Open up the LIV Avatar interface and venture to the **Camera** tab - there you'll see all the different camera modes that are currently available.
2. Play around with them to your heart's content! Below is a brief rundown of the different modes.
**Selfie**\
Imagine a selfie stick that transcends all physical boundaries. Now stop imagining, because it's right in front of you.\
This is the G.O.A.T. of all selfie sticks, and here's how you operate it:
* You can drag the camera around by pointing inside the inner circle enclosing the camera icon and holding **Trigger**. Release and drop the camera off wherever you want.
* You can extend/retract the selfie stick by pointing between the inner and outer circle, holding **Trigger** and moving your hand horizontally.
In its default state, the camera will always be facing you. If you want to control the direction it's filming in, check the "Static camera" box at the bottom of the interface, which will connect a green "X" to the camera through a dotted line. The X determines where the camera is faced and is movable.
**Third Person**\
The camera films your view from a third-person perspective. Tweak settings to tailor fit your framing.
**Enhanced First Person View**\
The camera films your HMD view and is basically the same as streaming the SteamVR mirror, but with extra settings that make for a more pleasant viewing experience (smoothing, extra FoV). You can read more about it [here](/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/enhanced-fpv)!
**Gamepad**\
Connect an Xbox controller to your PC and control the camera using a gamepad. This allows you to fly around with the camera in free-form mode, giving you epic control over cinematography and framing.
# LIV Camera Plugins

# Camera 2 in the LIV Avatar Suite
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/camera2capture
Camera 2 in the avatar suite is an extra camera view of your avatar. The background is transparent and you will need to set things up properly in your recording/streaming software for that to work correctly.
**Camera 2 is ONLY a view of your avatar so it wont be composited with the game.**
You can move/adjust the camera the same as you do for the Selfie camera
* You can drag the camera around by pointing inside the inner circle enclosing the camera icon and holding **Trigger**. Release and drop the camera off wherever you want.
* You can extend/retract the selfie stick by pointing between the inner and outer circle, holding **Trigger** and moving your hand horizontally.
# How to capture
Capture the VIVR.exe window using game capture, it will be named like so \\\[VIVR.exe\\]: \[Profile name]
You must click the VIVR window on your desktop before it will show up in OBS.
**OBS**
Enable Allow Transparency
**Streamlabs**
# Start Capturing (Avatar)
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/capturing-avatar
1. Click on **Capture** in the left tab to open up the capture page.
2. In the game drop-down, **select your LIV-eligible game**.
3. In **Target Resolution**, select the resolution at which you want LIV to render the avatar camera.
4. Click on **Sync & Launch** to sync the game to our compositor and launch it!
5. Your Avatar feed will show up in the **LIV Output** window\*\*.\*\* This is the window that you want to be capturing with your broadcasting/recording software.
If you are using OBS, make sure you capture the LIV output with Game Capture for the best performance. Check out our other [performance tips here](/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/general-liv-steam-app/improve-performance).
If you are using an Oculus Rift, Oculus Rift S, or an Oculus Quest + Link combo, you will need to ensure that the game you're trying to capture is running in OpenVR for it to function with LIV. For 99% of cases, all you need to do is add\
"-vrmode openvr" to the game's launch options on Steam, as shown in the video below.
If you find that a game that should be supported is broken, please let us know on [Discord](https://discord.gg/liv)!
Its best to use this launch order to ensure everything will work correctly

# Dynamic lighting
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/dynamic-lighting
Dynamic lighting & reflections for LIV avatars! 🤯 This feature uses your HMD's output for creating a dynamic, live light and reflection map. If you're using metallic materials in your avatars, you'll see beautiful real-time reflections when the camera's up-close and personal. Enable it in LIV's avatar UI.\
\
*-***\_You may need to toggle on Dynamic lighting and restart LIV before it will work properly. \
\_**\
Open the LIV Avatar UI and navigate to **Avatar** then over to the left you can select **Static** or \*\*Dynamic \*\*
# LIV's Enhanced FPV
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/enhanced-fpv
Our first-person view (FPV) capture mode lets you apply smoothing to it and change its field of view (FoV), making your content *actually* enjoyable for your viewers to watch.
The mode works through a virtual camera, like the ones in our avatar suite, only positioned on your head. This means that the setup is the exact same as LIV Avatars (you can skip step 2 and 4!) all the way up until the **Camera Modes** section.
All you need to do is select **First person** in the camera interface to make the switch. There, you will be able to fine-tune the smoothing and FoV of your FPV camera.
Are parts of your avatar showing while in the FPV mode? Go to your avatar settings and disable their visibility!
Here are three snippets of our FPV mode in action, at 50°/70°/90° FoV and a constant 40% smoothing. Notice how jerky the regular capture is.
This is of course not exclusive to Beat Saberー you can reap the benefits of our enhanced FPV with any game that the LIV SDK implemented!

Here's how to use your own avatars with LIV:
1. Get yourself an avatar that you would like to use. **LIV currently supports .avatar and .vrm file extensions**.
For the purpose of this guide, I went on ModelSaber and downloaded an avatar of Yukina Minato created by WillTheWAFSack.
2. Import your avatar by dragging and dropping the avatar file onto the LIV App window.
If you're experiencing issues dragging and dropping, navigate to Documents > LIV > Avatars and move over the files manually.
To remove Avatars, navigate to Documents > LIV > Avatars folder and delete the files you want to remove.
# Microphone, Face, and Eye tracking support on .avatar format
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/mic-face-eye-tracking
LIV will try to animate your **.avatar** when you are using the microphone, lip tracking, or eye tracking.
This is also true for VRM. If you are using VRM, please head over to the equivalent VRM article.
This article does not describe how to artistically model the blendshapes; it only describes which technical names the LIV software expects to function.
*For information about the artistic aspect, you should refer to other online resources.*
*- In .avatar, we use Oculus Lipsync blendshapes for the microphone, and* *we recommend Vive SRAnipal blendshapes for face tracking*
*- In VRM, we use A/I/U/E/O blendshapes for the microphone, and* *we recommend Apple ARKit blendshapes for face tracking*
# .avatar Format
## Naming convention
When using the .avatar format, we attempt to find out if it is compatible with microphone, and face tracking (lip and eyes).
Our current approach is to use naming conventions. In the future, we will provide you with a creation kit for avatars so that you can control exactly what is being animated.
We scan the entire avatar for SkinnedMeshRenderer components. We will animate all of those that have compatible blendshapes based on their name.
## Microphone
For the microphone, it is loosely based on naming conventions derived from [Oculus Lipsync](https://developer.oculus.com/documentation/unity/audio-ovrlipsync-viseme-reference/), itself derived from the [Viseme MPEG-4 Standard](https://www.oculus.com/lynx/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.visagetechnologies.com%2Fuploads%2F2012%2F08%2FMPEG-4FBAOverview.pdf\&e=AT2WHhcUwhjPOmRU3XxyshGbnvXEHAYcdKSptKMkoJs0HrkLEQkvBtt16gpm1fI74mekp0hDU0oA26dpFlw69bV1cooZZRWCQo59S2YXIGiccZRrDwrqZOm6Jve0s-2u189SHwuZRKXAuA6STEAzs5IP_-h6S0XKEQM5vA).
**The blendshape names are case-sensitive.** You need to make sure the names match exactly according to this list:\
Viseme: Sil = viseme\_sil, v\_sil\
Viseme: PP = viseme\_PP, v\_PP\
Viseme: FF = viseme\_FF, v\_FF\
Viseme: TH = viseme\_TH, v\_TH\
Viseme: DD = viseme\_DD, v\_DD\
Viseme: Kk = viseme\_kk, v\_kk\
Viseme: CH = viseme\_CH, v\_CH\
Viseme: SS = viseme\_SS, v\_SS\
Viseme: Nn = viseme\_nn, v\_nn\
Viseme: RR = viseme\_RR, v\_RR\
Viseme: Aa = viseme\_aa, v\_aa\
Viseme: E = viseme\_E, v\_E, viseme\_ee, v\_ee\
Viseme: I = viseme\_I, v\_I, viseme\_ih, v\_ih\
Viseme: O = viseme\_O, v\_O, viseme\_oh, v\_oh\
Viseme: U = viseme\_U, v\_U, viseme\_ou, v\_ou
## Eye gaze
Eye gaze works by rotating your avatar eye bones to match where you're looking at. You must enable ""Use Experimental Eye Gaze"" located in the VR LIV menu.
We will try to use the eye bones that are specified in the humanoid configuration of the avatar asset.
This can be set in the import settings of your avatar asset, usually a FBX file.
## Lip/Eye tracking blendshapes
### SRAnipal-styled naming (recommended for .avatar)
For Face tracking, it is based on [SRAnipal LipShape\_v2 and EyeShape\_v2](https://developer.vive.com/resources/openxr/openxr-pcvr/tutorials/unity/integrate-facial-tracking-your-avatar/).
We will look for blendshapes with the following names, case sensitive:
Eye\_Left\_Blink Eye\_Left\_Wide Eye\_Left\_Right Eye\_Left\_Left Eye\_Left\_Up\
Eye\_Left\_Down Eye\_Right\_Blink Eye\_Right\_Wide Eye\_Right\_Right Eye\_Right\_Left\
Eye\_Right\_Up Eye\_Right\_Down Eye\_Frown Eye\_Left\_Squeeze Eye\_Right\_Squeeze\
Jaw\_Right Jaw\_Left Jaw\_Forward Jaw\_Open Mouth\_Ape\_Shape\
Mouth\_Upper\_Right Mouth\_Upper\_Left Mouth\_Lower\_Right Mouth\_Lower\_Left Mouth\_Upper\_Overturn\
Mouth\_Lower\_Overturn Mouth\_Pout Mouth\_Smile\_Right Mouth\_Smile\_Left Mouth\_Sad\_Right\
Mouth\_Sad\_Left Cheek\_Puff\_Right Cheek\_Puff\_Left Cheek\_Suck Mouth\_Upper\_UpRight\
Mouth\_Upper\_UpLeft Mouth\_Lower\_DownRight Mouth\_Lower\_DownLeft Mouth\_Upper\_Inside Mouth\_Lower\_Inside\
Mouth\_Lower\_Overlay Tongue\_LongStep1 Tongue\_LongStep2 Tongue\_Down Tongue\_Up\
Tongue\_Right Tongue\_Left Tongue\_Roll Tongue\_UpLeft\_Morph Tongue\_UpRight\_Morph\
Tongue\_DownLeft\_Morph Tongue\_DownRight\_Morph
### ARKit-styled naming
If you avatar was already designed with ARKit in mind, we will also look for blendshapes named after ARKit-styled naming as defined in [ARKitBlendShapeLocation](https://docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.xr.arkit-face-tracking@1.0/api/UnityEngine.XR.ARKit.ARKitBlendShapeLocation.html), where the first letter is uppercase:
BrowDownLeft BrowDownRight BrowInnerUp BrowOuterUpLeft BrowOuterUpRight\
CheekPuff CheekSquintLeft CheekSquintRight EyeBlinkLeft EyeBlinkRight\
EyeLookDownLeft EyeLookDownRight EyeLookInLeft EyeLookInRight EyeLookOutLeft\
EyeLookOutRight EyeLookUpLeft EyeLookUpRight EyeSquintLeft EyeSquintRight\

MouthRollUpper MouthShrugLower MouthShrugUpper MouthSmileLeft MouthSmileRight\
MouthStretchLeft MouthStretchRight MouthUpperUpLeft MouthUpperUpRight NoseSneerLeft\
NoseSneerRight TongueOut
You can also look at [ARFaceAnchor.BlendShapeLocation](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/arkit/arfaceanchor/blendshapelocation/2928261-eyeblinkleft) documentation for reference but keep in mind the first letter must be uppercase.
Please don't have both ARKit-styled blendshapes and SRAnipal-styled blendshapes simultaneously!

# Microphone, Face, and Eye tracking support on VRM format
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/mic-face-eye-tracking-vrm
LIV will try to animate your **VRM** when you are using the microphone, lip tracking, or eye tracking.
This is also true for .avatar. If you are using .avatar, please head over to the equivalent .avatar article.
This article does not describe how to artistically model the blendshapes; it only describes which technical names the LIV software expects to function.

# VRM Format
## Naming convention
When using the VRM format, we attempt to find out if it is compatible with face tracking (lip and eyes).
We are using naming conventions by looking for specific BlendShape Clip names and animating them.
## Microphone
For the microphone, we use the five standard [A/I/U/E/O](https://vrm.dev/en/univrm/blendshape/univrm_blendshape.html?highlight=mouth#a-i-u-e-o) blendshapes. These blendshapes are commonly defined as part of the standard set of BlendShape Clips in the VRM format.
## Eye gaze
Eye gaze works using the standard VRM [LookAt](https://vrm.dev/en/univrm/lookat/index.html) components.
We have additional option named ""Use Experimental Eye Gaze"" located in the VR LIV menu. This option is aimed at tweaking eye tracking experience for VR use, as eye gaze in VR may feel different from using traditional webcam-based VTubing software:
* When disabled, it will strictly follow the configuration as defined in the VRM.
* When enabled, it will modify the behaviour of the VRM LookAt Bone Applyer component to more strictly match where you're looking at. This results in stronger eye rotations, which could look artistically inaccurate depending on your avatar.
## Lip/Eye tracking blendshapes
**We recommend using ARKit-styled naming for VRM compatibility with other software**.
ARKit-styled naming is a popular convention in existing VRM-based software, so you will benefit from VRM compatibility with other software.
If you are specifically targeting VR software, there is no clear preference between ARKit-styled naming and SRAnipal-styled naming.
Some facial features available in SRAnipal are not available in ARKit, and inversely.
Some facial features in ARKit will not be animated because the VR hardware does not capture these features.
### ARKit-styled naming (recommended for VRM)
If you avatar is designed with ARKit in mind, we will look for blendshapes named after ARKit-styled naming as defined in [ARKitBlendShapeLocation](https://docs.unity3d.com/Packages/com.unity.xr.arkit-face-tracking@1.0/api/UnityEngine.XR.ARKit.ARKitBlendShapeLocation.html), where the first letter is uppercase:
BrowDownLeft BrowDownRight BrowInnerUp BrowOuterUpLeft BrowOuterUpRight\
CheekPuff CheekSquintLeft CheekSquintRight EyeBlinkLeft EyeBlinkRight\

MouthStretchLeft MouthStretchRight MouthUpperUpLeft MouthUpperUpRight NoseSneerLeft\
NoseSneerRight TongueOut
You can also look at [ARFaceAnchor.BlendShapeLocation](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/arkit/arfaceanchor/blendshapelocation/2928261-eyeblinkleft) documentation for reference but keep in mind the first letter must be uppercase.
All of the BlendShape Clips should be defined. Otherwise, MouthSmileLeft must be defined for your avatar to be recognized as compatible with ARKit-styled naming.
### SRAnipal-styled naming
If your avatar does not have ARKit-styled blendshapes, we will also look for [SRAnipal LipShape\_v2 and EyeShape\_v2](https://developer.vive.com/resources/openxr/openxr-pcvr/tutorials/unity/integrate-facial-tracking-your-avatar/) blendshapes.
We will look for blendshapes with the following names, case sensitive:
Eye\_Left\_Blink Eye\_Left\_Wide Eye\_Left\_Right Eye\_Left\_Left Eye\_Left\_Up\
Eye\_Left\_Down Eye\_Right\_Blink Eye\_Right\_Wide Eye\_Right\_Right Eye\_Right\_Left\
Eye\_Right\_Up Eye\_Right\_Down Eye\_Frown Eye\_Left\_Squeeze Eye\_Right\_Squeeze\
Jaw\_Right Jaw\_Left Jaw\_Forward Jaw\_Open Mouth\_Ape\_Shape\
Mouth\_Upper\_Right Mouth\_Upper\_Left Mouth\_Lower\_Right Mouth\_Lower\_Left Mouth\_Upper\_Overturn\
Mouth\_Lower\_Overturn Mouth\_Pout Mouth\_Smile\_Right Mouth\_Smile\_Left Mouth\_Sad\_Right\
Mouth\_Sad\_Left Cheek\_Puff\_Right Cheek\_Puff\_Left Cheek\_Suck Mouth\_Upper\_UpRight\
Mouth\_Upper\_UpLeft Mouth\_Lower\_DownRight Mouth\_Lower\_DownLeft Mouth\_Upper\_Inside Mouth\_Lower\_Inside\
Mouth\_Lower\_Overlay Tongue\_LongStep1 Tongue\_LongStep2 Tongue\_Down Tongue\_Up\
Tongue\_Right Tongue\_Left Tongue\_Roll Tongue\_UpLeft\_Morph Tongue\_UpRight\_Morph\
Tongue\_DownLeft\_Morph Tongue\_DownRight\_Morph
All of the BlendShape Clips should be defined. Otherwise, Mouth\_Smile\_Left must be defined for your avatar to be recognized as compatible with SRAnipal-styled naming.
### Default behaviour
If your avatar has neither ARKit nor SRAnipal blendshapes, we will use the standard Joy and Sorrow BlendShape Clips as a fallback.

# Pairing and assigning trackers for Full Body Tracking or tracked camera
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/pairing-trackers
First you will need to pair your trackers with SteamVR.
[Pairing Vive Trackers (2018)](https://www.vive.com/us/support/wireless-tracker/category_howto/pairing-vive-tracker.html)
[Pairing Vive Trackers (3.0)](https://www.vive.com/us/support/tracker3/category_howto/pairing-vive-tracker.html)
[Pairing Tundra Trackers](https://docs.tundra-labs.com/tundra-tracker/wireless-pairing)
After pairing your trackers you will need to assign them to the correct body part in SteamVR's Manage Trackers section, Left foot, Right Foot, ect. Its best to do them one at a time and label the tracker in some way so you know which body part is paired with that tacker.\
\
SteamVR Settings > Controllers > Manage Trackers\
\
Click the 3 little lines on the top left of the SteamVR desktop dashboard window to open the settings.
**- Open Settings**
**- Controllers**
**- Manage Trackers**
**- Now you can select which body part to assign to the tracker**
**\
Tip: How to pair SteamVR devices to avoid binding conflicts**
Step 1: Unplug all vive dongles
Step 2: Restart Steamvr so everything VR related is powered off then powered back on.
Step 3: Power on and pair your controllers, since the dongles are unplugged they will bind to your headset Leave them on for the remainder of the steps.
Step 4: Plug in one dongle, and pair the tracker. Since there is only one dongle that doesn't have a device attached, it will bind to this one. Leave the tracker on for the remainder of the steps.
Step 5: Repeat step 4, one dongle and one tracker at a time, leaving them on until you are complete

* The viewfinder is disabled by default. To enable it, open up the LIV overlay and navigate to the **Viewfinder** tab. In a freshly created camera profile, the viewfinder will be latched on to your avatar camera.
* Through the four check boxes visible on the menu, you can decide where in the space you'd like to place the viewfinder. You can:
a. Have it follow your camera (Camera);
b. Have it follow your HMD (HUD);
c. Have it on your wrist (Wrist);
d. Place it freely in the world using the same mechanics as the camera's selfie stick mode (World).
e. **NEW**: We've added XYZ position settings to the viewfinder tab for avatars, giving you more precise control. If you have 'HUD' selected as placement (where the viewfinder follows your head movements), you can now fine-tune its exact position using these XYZ controls!
Great success! You're now ready to start broadcasting with LIV Avatars. /*Yukina flex*
# VRCFT Support in LIV
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/liv-avatars-and-virtual-cameras/vrcft
**Setup**
Download [VRCRT on Steam here](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3329480/VRCFaceTracking/) and opt into the beta branch
or
You must use [VRCFT v5.1.1, downloadable here](https://github.com/benaclejames/VRCFaceTracking/releases/tag/5.1.1.0).\
This is due to a bug in VRCFT v5.2.3 that causes LIV to receive no data.\
The bug is already fixed in their code, but there has been no new release since April 10, 2024.
To download/use VRCFT:
* Download the msix file from the release page.
* Rename the file from VRCFaceTracking\_5.1.1.0\_x64.msix to VRCFaceTracking\_5.1.1.0\_x64.zip
* Extract all files to a folder.
* Run VRCFaceTracking.exe in the folder you extracted the files to.\
This is necessary as VRCFT's code certificate has expired, preventing normal installation.
See [their documentation](https://docs.vrcft.io/docs/intro) for further setup steps!
**Usage**
1. Run both LIV and VRCFaceTracking\\
2. From LIV's in-VR avatar settings, select VRCFT via OSC in the left-hand menu under *Eye Animation* & *Mouth Animation*.\
- If you only have mouth tracking, only select for mouth tracking, and vice-versa.\\
3. Choose an avatar that supports face tracking.
That's it!
If your tracking hardware & avatar are configured correctly, you should now have working VRCFT face tracking in LIV.
Connection settings are within meta.json, in the shell:Personal\LIV\Settings folder.\
This file is created/updated the first time you launch the compositor after updating!\
If you haven't changed VRCFT's OSC settings, you don't need to change these.
**Avatar Setup**\
Any avatar format that LIV supports should work!\
You just need to ensure the correct blendshapes are present in your avatar's mesh.
The full list of ""Unified Expressions"" blendshapes are in VRCFT's docs:\\
* [Base Shapes](https://docs.vrcft.io/docs/tutorial-avatars/tutorial-avatars-extras/unified-blendshapes#ue-base-shapes)\\
* [Blended Shapes](https://docs.vrcft.io/docs/tutorial-avatars/tutorial-avatars-extras/unified-blendshapes#ue-blended-shapes)\
*LIV's VRCFT integration supports blendshapes only.*
Credit to @Mugiwara. Ensure you've set up the blendshapes correctly. You'll need to add the blendshapes in the Blendshape file of your Avatar as that's what the tracking software uses.
# ragesaqs technique for getting perfect calibration
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/calibration-guide
**1:** Perform the 3 initial clicks, with the first click kissing your camera lens and the later two clicks as far back as you can step while still getting the crosshairs
**Now to start refinement.**\
\
***Note:***\_ If you can't reach all 3 crosshairs the next steps will take more time, but if you repeat steps 2 through 6 you will eventually get a solid calibration\_\
\
**2:** Step close to the camera, hold your controller up near the center of the frame and adjust x/y/z, try to adjust the Z so that the controller matches IRL size\
\
**3:** Step back really far and adjust pitch and yaw with your hands out, try to get one controller close\
**\
4:** Hold both controllers out to the sides, if the controllers are too far away on the inside/outside you need to adjust your fov\
**\
5:** Step close and hold your controllers out to the sides again, adjust fov if necessary\
**\
6:** Step in the middle and hold the controllers out to the sides, try to adjust the rotation so they look even\
**\
7:** Repeat step 2 through 6 until your controllers are really accurate no matter where you are in the frame
# 4. Calibrating Your Camera
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/camera-calibration
The calibration process is a 3-click process that helps us determine the Field of View (FoV), position and rotation of your camera.
It is important that you try to be as accurate as possible; even small mistakes can easily make the calibration go bad.
**Let's get started!**
1. Press Trigger once to initiate the calibration. You should now see a **big red cross** in the middle of your view.
2. Bring your controller **all the way up to the lens of the camera** as showcased below, then press Trigger.
For VIVE Controllers, you want to encompass\
the cross with the controller donut/hole.\
**Press Trigger to confirm**.
For Rift and Index Controllers, you want to align the\
center of the Trigger with the center of the cross.\
**Press Trigger to confirm**.
For step 2 and 3, move as far back into your play space\
as you can, or until the distance indicator turns green, then repeat\
the clicks in each corner using the same alignment logic as above.
Once you're done with the three clicks, you should see virtual controllers overlaid onto your real controllers. They should match your real controllers almost perfectly.
Do not Enable Meta Quest Camera offset as this will break calibration and not function properly
If you have done your best to get the clicks as accurate as possible but your calibration is still a little off, you can try fine-tuning your calibration using the manual adjustment sliders.
If your calibration is wildly off but you feel like you've done everything right, chances are you probably haven't (*sorry!*) - calibrating can get really finicky depending on your setup. Luckily, LIV veteran Ragesaq has got you covered with his flawless calibration technique.
If your calibration is wildly off **and** you've tried all the above, there is probably something funky going on. Double-check that you are maintaining tracking throughout the entire calibration process! At this point however, it might be time for you to submit a ticket or join our Discord for 1-on-1 support.
Troubleshooting:
* Help I'm trying to calibrate and ""warning"" pops up on the screen
* LIV's Virtual Camera is attached to your controller; Your controller is stuck on the floor; You cannot calibrate due to our SteamVR driver not starting
# Capture Meta Presence Platform with LIV
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/capture-meta-presence-platform
Presence Platform Recording, particularly Passthrough, is designed for **Professional Production Studios**.
Creating the final composite involves post-production tasks such as composition, background segmentation, and using third-party software.
Supported games must be Quest games specifically built to run on PCVR, which isn't available publicly.
You'll get a composition of the foreground over the real life camera. Background composition will need to be done in post production.
## **Introduction - Updated August 26, 2024**
At a high level, the process for recording mixed reality capture is as follows;
1. Setup your Space in the Quest OS
2. Start Meta Quest Link. Doesn’t work with Virtual Desktop or Steam Link.
3. Ensure Meta Quest Link is set as the active OpenXR runtime.
4. In the Meta Quest Beta tab, ensure Developer Runtime Features, Passthrough over Meta Quest Link, and Spatial Data over Meta Quest Link is enabled.
5. Start LIV app on Steam, using the **default** branch.
6. Start your Quest game on PCVR with LIV 2.0 SDK
7. Start LIV Mixed Reality Capture and manually select the game
8. Start SteamVR
9. Capture
If you prefer, you can view a tutorial video. [https://youtu.be/gPogkXJUBAk](https://youtu.be/gPogkXJUBAk)
## **Required and Recommended Software**
* [LIV App](https://store.steampowered.com/app/755540/LIV/), which can be found on Steam
* [Meta Quest Link app for PC](https://www.meta.com/en-gb/help/quest/articles/headsets-and-accessories/oculus-link/connect-with-air-link/)
* Your favorite Capture software, such as OBS, ScreenApp, or Movavi Screen Recorder
* As of June 26, 2024, it's required to use [OpenVR Space Calibrator,](https://github.com/pushrax/OpenVR-SpaceCalibrator/releases) if you're wanting to use a tracked camera.
## **Required and Recommended Hardware**
* Camera that can connect to your PC for capture
* If you're using a tracked cameras
* It's *highly recommended* to use a Quest Pro controller as it self-tracks and won't lose the calibration as easily
* A SteamVR/Lighthouse compatible tracker to attach to your camera
* Some mechanism to securely attach the tracker to your camera
## **Setup your capture environment, equipment, and software**
To capture Presence Platform content you will need to make sure you have the following ready:
### **Quest Setup**
* On your Quest 3 headset, your guardian & floor height as well as the playspace center and direction need to be set.
* The LIV app does not have recording capabilities, rather we leave that function to your preferred software, for example OBS. Set up your capture software accordingly.
* You need to use the Meta Quest Link desktop app to connect to your PC. Note that capture does not work with virtual Desktop or Steam Link at this time.
* Within the Meta Quest Link App
* Ensure Meta Quest Link is set as the active OpenXR runtime.
* In the Beta tab, ensure Developer Runtime Features,Pass through over Meta Quest Link, and Spatial Data over Meta Quest Link is enabled.
* Although not necessary, it's recommended to disable the proximity sensor of your Quest. You can do this step within [Meta Quest Developer Hub](https://developer.oculus.com/meta-quest-developer-hub/) each time you go through this process. You could also cover the in-headset proximity sensor.
### **LIV Setup**
1. Install the [LIV app on Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/755540/LIV/)
2. Install the [LIV SteamVR driver](/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/steamvr-driver).
3. Use the default branch of the LIV App.
4. The app you're using is currently supported with LIV.
5. Ensure your physical cameras are correctly set up.
* Static: Place your camera in a fixed location to get the desired framing of both you and your background.
* Tracked: Secure the tracker to the camera.
6. Complete camera setup based on your filming setup.
## **Static Camera**
### **Setup**
1. Start LIV. Ensure SteamVR is not yet started.
2. In the LIV app's Mixed Reality Capture tab, launch the compositor by clicking "Start PassThrough MR"
3. Launch your Game/App.
4. Launch SteamVR.
5. Set up your camera within LIV. In the Camera tab in the LIV app, click "Add Camera"
* Enable Meta Quest Camera Offset will be automatically enabled when selecting "Start Passthrough MR"
6. Select Video Camera as camera type, choose your device, and then preferred resolution.
1. Press "Begin Calibration" and follow the on-screen instructions to align the virtual controllers with your physical ones. For more details, you can follow the steps in the [calibration guide](/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/calibration-guide).
2. If you're using a green screen, adjust the keying settings to ensure a clean separation between you and the background. You may have to play around here to get things just right.
7. Navigate to the "Capture" tab in the LIV app and under "Manual," select your app's .exe in the target section. You should now see your game in the LIV Output window with your camera's view
8. For mixed reality apps with passthrough capabilities:
1. In the LIV app, under the "Output" tab, enable the checkbox to hide the background. When you enable background view, all content that the game developer has identified to be hidden in passthrough mode will be black.
2. Under the "Capture" tab, set the "Effect" to "Dump + Presence Platform." You won't be able to see the passthrough effect, but the areas that will be masked out in post-production will appear as a solid color, making the process easier.
3. Your output window will now show 4 quadrants that can be used to composite a final scene. The top right quadrant will show the foreground alpha layer (Magenta) and the background alpha layer (Blue) packed together in a single view
9. You're now ready to start recording. In your preferred capture software, such as OBS, capture the LIV Output window as your source to begin recording.
## **Tracked Camera Setup**
A tracked camera enables dynamic, engaging shots for your viewers. However, it requires a more complex setup, including non-Quest tracking through SteamVR.
### **You will need:**
* A SteamVR supported lighthouse-based tracking solution attached to your camera.
* We highly recommend using a Quest Pro controller because it has self-tracking capabilities. This reduces the risk of losing calibration when the controller moves out of the headset's field of view.
* [OpenVR Space Calibrator](https://github.com/pushrax/OpenVR-SpaceCalibrator/releases) to align the calibration coordinates between SteamVR and Quest.
* Physical clamps to securely fasten controllers
There can be Quest and Steam tracking center coordinates misalignment between the game controllers and headset.
This misalignment can be minimized by making sure Quest's guardian space is as square as possible and ensuring both Quest and Steam have the same forward vector. If you do notice the alignment drifting you'll need to recenter on the Quest and run through calibration on LIV again.
### **Setup**
1. On your Quest 3 headset, set the guardian, scene setup, and floor height as well as the playspace center and direction. Meta's guide can be [found here.](https://www.meta.com/en-gb/help/quest/articles/in-vr-experiences/oculus-features/boundary/)
2. Start the Meta Quest Link PC app and connect your headset to your PC, using AirLink or Link Cable.
3. Start SteamVR.
4. Verify that the SteamVR playspace center and direction match those set on the Quest 3. If they don't, use the Meta/Oculus button to reset. Note that you cannot use the Quest's recentering feature after this step without starting over.
5. Turn on both Lighthouse trackers and place one Quest Pro controller in a clamp, ensuring the controller’s cameras are unobstructed. It’s crucial that the Quest Pro controller remains stationary during calibration.
6. A second USB-attached Lighthouse tracker, mounted on a Manfrotto Super Clamp and positioned optimally within the Lighthouse tracked area, will help keep its position if the primary camera tracker is occluded. This second tracker and clamp will also securely lock the tracker and Quest Pro controller together during calibration in OpenVR Space Calibrator.
7. With the OpenVR Space Calibrator program open, use the "Slow" or "Very Slow" calibration process.
8. Hold the clamp so that both tracker and controller track optimally throughout the calibration process.
9. Perform Tai-Chi-like moves with the clamp, slow and steady, including rotations and vertical movement, while moving across a wide area of the playspace. It is crucial to maintain perfect tracking throughout this process; you can observe the tracking quality through the headset while performing this process.
10. Once complete, check calibration by moving the clamp around the space and looking for any significant drift. Place a controller against the camera tracker to confirm calibration. Repeat the calibration process if necessary.
11. Clamp the calibration tracker somewhere with optimal Lighthouse tracking, and leave it there until a recalibration is required. This will help maintain the Lighthouse playspace in case the camera tracker becomes momentarily occluded.
12. Start the LIV app on Steam
13. Calibrate the LIV camera by following all the steps in the [calibration guide.](/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/calibration-guide)
14. You're now ready to start recording. In your preferred capture software, such as OBS, capture the LIV Output window as your source to begin recording.
With tracked cameras, you'll eventually encounter 'drift' which is the calibration over time getting out sync. It's unavoidable due to using the Quest and Steam tracking systems in tandem. You can follow these [best practices](/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/minimize-drift) to reduce the frequency and effects.
Do not recenter the playspace or have your device go to sleep after you have calibrated. Recentering will change your coordinates and your calibration alignment won’t be accurate anymore.
If you need to change your Quest space you will have to redo the entire process.
# Compositing passthrough capture
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/compositing-passthrough-capture
This guide will give a high level outline on how one can take the dump mode captured background, foreground, and packed background/alpha channel quadrant recording to produce a high quality composite. The overall process and details are different depending on your preferred video editing software, but the overall concepts is the same.
1. You've recorded content with Passthrough and now have a '4 quadrant recording'. To record Passthrough content, follow this guide.
2. In your video editing software, you can follow the basic video composition by following [Touge's Masterclass video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7627pFW6DE\&t=138s) using Adobe Premier and After Effects.
3. The additional steps for dealing with the packed background/foreground alpha channel is using Shift Channels in After Effects to interpret Blue as the Background Alpha channel and the Red as the Foreground Alpha channel.
4. Suggested composition layers
* FG x FG alpha x subject alpha (darken)
* FG x subject alpha (add)
* Subject
* BG x BG alpha (darken)
* BG (add)
* Real camera
# How To Create a Static Mask
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/create-static-mask
Here's how you create a static mask:
* Take a screenshot of the LIV output window (use keys: alt + print screen to take a screenshot of your play space.)
* Paste the screenshot you just took of the LIV output window into your image editing app
* Color the area you want to hide (mask) black
* Color your green-screened area white
* Save the file as .png
Import your static mask into LIV. Now, only the area covered in white in the static mask should be shown in your LIV output.
[Check out Touge's video section on static mask here.](https://youtu.be/jBLl6n7tRQE?t=898)
# What is De-spill, and how do I use it in LIV?
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/despill-adjustment
# What is De-spill?
When using a green screen with bright lights, it's likely that some of that green will reflect back onto the subject (you, the player). This will often appear as a green border around the edge of the subject, or a slight green tint over the whole subject. This green reflection onto the subject is called "spill". Spill is ugly, kills skin tones, and can make it very obvious you're on a green screen. It must be dealt with.
Spill can be suppressed with a technique called "de-spill". De-spill tries to replace the green spill with a more natural colour. The result is that green border is removed, and colours are more natural across the image.
# How do I de-spill in LIV?
In your Camera Profile, go to the Keying tab and adjust De-spill Strength.
Set de-spill strength to 100% for maximum de-spill; or set to 0% to disable the effect.
Note: If you were previously using a LUT for the purpose of de-spill, you should consider disabling the LUT and using the in-built de-spill function in its place.

# Additional Features (MR)
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/feature-guides/additional-mr-features
Now that all the tedious stuff is over, let's talk about some additional features we have for mixed reality.
#### **LIV Viewfinder**
How do you know what your framing looks like once you've put the headset on?\
\
Enter the viewfinder! It is disabled by default, but you should totally enable it now that you know what it is.
* Head to the **Viewfinder** page in LIV and tick the box to enable it.
When doing mixed reality, the viewfinder will always be located where your camera lens is, so that you are making "eye contact" with your viewers while looking at it.
***
#### **Field of View (FoV) Override**
This is the ability to artificially change the FoV of your camera. By increasing this number you'll essentially simulate a wider FoV, showing more of the game and making yourself appear smaller.
1. Edit your current camera profile, and head to **Calibration.**
2. Use the FoV Override bar or the +- symbols to dial in your desired FoV.
3. If changing the FoV destroys your calibration, try re-launching the game you're capturing through LIV. Some games don't support "hot reloading" of game files and will need to be restarted for changes to take effect.
If your body is cut off in the camera frame, you will remain cut off as you change the FoV and it will look odd. This feature is best used when you can see your whole body in the camera frame before changing the FoV.
***
#### **Changing Your Output Size, FPS, and Location**
You can also control the size, refresh rate, and location of the output window. This is particularly useful if you want it to take up less space on your desktop, or if you want to move it to a separate monitor or a projector.
1. Click on **Output** in the left tab to open up the output settings page.
2. In **Resolution**, pick your output size. Generally, you want the output resolution to match your target resolution in **Capture**.
3. In **FPS**, pick your refresh rate. If you're having performance issues, you can try lowering this value.
4. In **Monitor**, select your main monitor.
5. Unchecking the **Lock Position** checkbox allows you to freely move the output around on your screen.
# Setup a Tracked/moveable camera

Mixed Reality tracked/moveable camera
* Pair your tracker in SteamVR
* Launch the LIV desktop app **Mixed Reality Capture > Start PCVR Mixed Reality Capture**
* After creating your camera profile click **Edit > Calibration**
* In the Tracker drop down menu select your tracker
The camera must stay stationary before and during calibration.
Next you can calibrate your camera as usual
**TIP**: Make sure to securely fasten the tracker and camera together, any movement will cause your calibration to mess up.

# Kinect v2 or Kinect Azure no green screen solution
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/kinect-no-green-screen
Needed:
* Either a [v2 Xbox One Kinect ](https://tinyurl.com/kinectxb1)or a [v4 Kinect Azure](https://tinyurl.com/kinect4)
* For the Xbox One Kinect, you will also need a PC adapter (like this one [https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JHJM9FG/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o01\_s00?ie=UTF8\&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JHJM9FG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8\&psc=1)) One end plugs into the Kinect, another into a wall outlet, and another into a 3.0 USB port.
***The Xbox 360 Kinect is not compatible with LIV!***
1. Download both the [Kinect for Windows runtime](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=57578) and the [Kinect SDK](https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=57578)
2. After extracting the runtime zip, right click on the kinectsensor inf file and click ‘install’
3. Install the Kinect SDK, then go back to the kinectruntime -x64.msi file in the runtime folder (might look a little different depending on your system) and install that as well.
If you're having troubles with an error code 1920 when trying to install the SDK, In your windows search bar, type in vcredist, click repair, then run through all the previous steps again.
Your Kinect should now be recognized by your computer, then you can select it as a camera option in LIV.
To use the auto background removal feature, move out of view of the camera frame (and remove anything that won’t be there during your recording/stream!), make sure you check the enable background removal box, then click the capture background button, and save.
# LIV Meta Presence Platform support
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/meta-presence-platform
LIV now supports games using Meta Quest's Presence Platform and their Interaction SDKs. Read our [announcement blog](https://www.liv.tv/blog/liv-partners-with-meta-to-become-the-official-capture-solution-for-meta-quest) for more details.
Meta's Presence Platform is a set of technologies and design principles used to create immersive virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR) experiences on Meta Quest devices. With LIV for Mixed Reality Apps, you can film someone playing a VR game in their real-world environment and composite that footage with the virtual elements of the game.
Presence Platform support is intended for Production Studios filming with professional equipment and processes, running Quest games on SteamVR/PC builds. We are working at bringing these features to our content creators in the near future. Capturing standalone Quest games (Quests not connected to PC) are not yet supported.
Share your feedback and follow us on our [Discord](https://discord.gg/liv) for the latest improvements.
# Minimizing Playspace Drift with Quest Standalone and Lighthouse Tracking
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/guides/mixed-reality/minimize-drift
When connecting your Quest device to your PC and having a Tracked camera, you'll eventually encounter drift. It's unavoidable but here's some tips to reduce the effects and frequency of occurrence.
## Quest device, specifically Quest 3
* Good lighting throughout filming area
* Lots of tracking points for headset - no plain walls. If on a green/blue screen, create unique shapes with appropriately colored tape on any plain walls/floor/ceiling
* Handle headset with care; don’t cover cameras with hands, clothing
* Don’t let headset turn off or sleep, under any circumstance, as Quest re-establishes the playspace coordinates each time it turns on
* Set Quest playspace center and direction with Meta/Oculus button **once** in Quest home environment at start of session, and never press it again.
* Set guardian boundaries well beyond filming area, so that headset can never leave it during session
* Check floor height and adjust in Quest settings if necessary. Recommend setting floor height approx. 10mm above real world floor. \
There’s 2 reasons for this; it helps in some edge cases solving foreground issues and have minimal issues when interacting with objects near the floor.
* Set headset to the longest possible sleep interval.
* Cover proximity sensor between lenses with Blu-Tack to ensure the headset remains on when not being worn
* Keep headset moving and tracking room throughout session. Headset will still sleep and reset playspace center if it stops moving for even a short period of time.
* Use Quest Pro controllers, which are self-tracking, instead of standard Quest 3 controllers which require constant line-of-sight to the headset, and are generally less accurate.
* Disable Hand Tracking in Quest settings
* Use dedicated WiFi 6E, with Virtual Desktop optimized for low network latency, and low GPU utilization.
## SteamVR optimizations
* Use 4x Lighthouse 2.0 base stations, with a solid mounting solution that won’t be subject to vibration. Ensure they never move once installed.
* Mount Lighthouse base stations high, typically in the corners of a room looking down. Optimize their coverage for any area the camera may move in.
* Use 2 Lighthouse trackers:
1. Virtual Camera tracker, firmly mounted to Real Camera
2. Dedicated playspace calibration tracker, firmly mounted to Manfrotto Super Clamp
* Do not use Bluetooth dongles, instead connect via USB using active extensions or optical cables
* Ensure both trackers maintain clear line-of-sight to all Lighthouse base stations as much as possible
## OpenVR Space Calibrator
* Before calibrating playspaces, put one of the Quest Pro controllers in the Manfrotto Super Clamp, making sure the controller’s cameras are not occluded.
* Hold clamp so that both tracker and controller track optimally throughout calibration process.
* Use “Slow” or “Very Slow” calibration process
* Perform Tai-Chi-like moves with the clamp, slow and steady, including rotations and vertical movement, while moving across a wide area of the playspace. It is important to maintain perfect tracking throughout this process.
* Once complete, check calibration by moving clamp around space and looking for any significant drift. Place a controller against the camera tracker to confirm calibration. Repeat calibration process if necessary.
* Clamp the calibration tracker somewhere with optimal Lighthouse tracking, and leave it there until a recalibration is required. This will help maintain the Lighthouse playspace in case the camera tracker becomes momentarily occluded.
* Calibrate the LIV camera after space calibration
* The calibration can be checked for drift during the session by placing a controller on the calibration tracker. If necessary, repeat the space calibration process and then re-calibrate the LIV camera.
# BETA - Mixed Reality without a green screen with Nvidia GPUs

We request the following permissions from Twitch:
bits:read - For historical bits information
clips:edit - For creating clips directly in StreamerKit
user\_read - General user info, we need this to be able to identify your channel, from your login.
user:edit:broadcast - That's the "stream key" one, I believe. Not used for anything right now, the hope was to interact with extensions using this.
chat\_login - Whispers, eventually!
channel\_subscriptions - Guess ;P
channel\_read - Getting info from your channel, specifically view count
A lot of what we're asking for is "We will likely need this in the future for possible feature X" - we don't currently collect any data from your channel automatically, and we'll tell everyone if/when we do!

# SteamVR features
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/home/steam-vr-features
### **Mixed Reality Capture (MRC)**
This is where it all began! Mixed Reality Capture is when you capture real people inside VR games.
It can look amazing with the right equipment and is an excellent way to provide viewers (particularly those who've never seen or tried VR) with a video form factor that is understandable and fun to watch.
### **Avatar Capture**
One of the big constraints of MRC is having to use *physical cameras*. If you want to move the camera around, you'll need to either have another person helping out, or mount the camera on a robotized solution.
Our solution to this is the use of *virtual cameras.* Virtual cameras are flexible; you can control them programmatically, you can have them orbit a player, you can simulate weight... you can pretty much do anything you want with them using a few (...or many) lines of code.
The drawback is that you can't film *real* people this way. So instead, we let you pick & puppeteer an avatar and film yourself that way!
### **Enhanced First Person View (FPV)**
If you don't want to film yourself in third person, whether it be in mixed reality or with avatars, that's totally cool too!
Just for you, we've built an FPV capture mode that allows you to add extra smoothing, making it a little easier on the eyes to watch. You can also change the Field of View of your FPV camera if you want to show more (or less 🤔) of the game.
**Gamepad Controlled Camera**
You know how many FPS games give you a WASD-controlled camera when you die, so you can fly around in the world and spectate freely?
Well, you can now do that with LIV too! Plug an Xbox controller into your PC and control the virtual camera using the gamepad.
This is an excellent way for a friend to become your personal cinematographer, controlling the camera while you're streaming!
### **LIV StreamerKit**
Are you guilty of using wonky workarounds in order to read your chat?\
With StreamerKit, you no longer have to! Never miss a moment of your audience chatter with our highly performant in-VR stream chat-and-alerts widget, even in the most heated moments.
Head over to the next step in this section once you're ready, and let's get you set up with LIV!
# What is the LIV SteamVR app?
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/home/what-is-liv-steamvr-app
LIV PCVR Steam App for Mixed Reality and Avatars in SteamVR games
The LIV SDK adds support to your PCVR game for Mixed Reality Capture and Virtual Cameras.
The LIV SDK is intended for developers to add support to their games. If you are a content creator or someone that wants to use LIV to record content with the supported games, you do not need to install the LIV SDK.
The LIV SDK provides a spectator view of your application. It contextualizes what the user feels & experiences by capturing their body directly inside your world! Thanks to our software, creators can film inside your app and have full control over the camera.
With the power of out-of-engine compositing, a creator can express themselves freely without limits; as a real person or an avatar!
## How It Works
The LIV SDK spawns a camera inside your game which is controlled by LIV. This camera then renders your app into a background and foreground, to allow the user’s body to be composited in. The background & foreground are separated by clipping geometry, based on the user’s location within the scene. These textures are then submitted for composition.
The compositor takes in multiple timestamped sources, performs latency compensation, and composites them together. This output can then be recorded or streamed using software like OBS or Discord.
Doing this work out-of-engine comes with some significant benefits:
* Optimised resource use - we only do the bare minimum work required in the SDK, allowing it to stay lightweight and easy to maintain.
* Accurate latency compensation works without any additional effort from you, the developer.
* Additional camera types, effects, and layers can be added in future updates to the LIV App, making your SDK integration last longer.
For this to work well, we have developed a minimum-latency, high-performance transport layer that also handles resource management. LIV’s footprint is almost entirely dependent on how well-optimised your application is!
The LIV App on Steam connects with games that have integrated the LIV SDK to do realtime composition.
# What is the LIV App?
The [LIV App on Steam](https://store.steampowered.com/app/755540/LIV/) is used to capture and composite games that have added the LIV SDK.

# The LIV output window is black or the LIV calibration screen is black in the headset
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/troubleshooting/general-troubleshooting/black-compositor-output
*Mixed Reality or Avatar mode*
Fix 1: Games must be purchased from Steam, games purchased from the Oculus store do not work, and neither do pirated copies.
Fix 2: Games must have the LIV SDK implemented or have a working SteamVR legacy mixed reality implementation.
Fix 3: If you have an Oculus Rift, Rift S, or Quest the game must run in OpenVR mode. To achieve this, set the game's launch option to "-vrmode openvr" in Steam.
Fix 4: The monitor that LIV runs on must be connected to the same GPU as the monitor your VR Headset is plugged into. Motherboard ports will not work. For Quest users, your monitor must be plugged into the GPU that is rendering the game.
Fix 5: The Crop feature in LIV is currently messing up calibration and coordinates in some games. Removing the cropping resolves the issue. It is recommended to use the Static Mask feature instead of Crop as it is more accurate and doesn't have this issue. To create a static mask, just alt+printscreen your LIV output window to take a perfect screenshot, then color your greenscreen area with white and the rest with black.
# Trying to calibrate and there is a warning pop up.

Help I'm trying to calibrate and "warning" pops up.
Make sure you are using the correct launch order.
Steam > SteamVR > Make sure headset and controllers are on > LIV
Starting everything in the correct order insures the LIV SteamVR Driver is loaded
Using a Quest you will want to make sure it is active and both controllers are on and connected to SteamVR.
Quest > Connect headset > Steam/SteamVR > Make sure headset and controllers are on> LIV
Make sure SteamVR is not in safemode.
Open SteamVR settings > Startup/Shutdown > Manage SteamVR Add-ons: 00liv\_virtualcamera > On
If SteamVR is in safemode the LIV add-on is being blocked and wont allow LIV to work properly.
Check to see if the LIV SteamVR driver is set to \*\*ON \*\*in **Manage SteamVR Add-Ons**
* Launch SteamVR
* Open the SteamVR Settings UI
* Select Settings
* Select Startup / Shutdown
* Select Manage Add-Ons
* Make sure "00liv\_virtualcamera" is set to "On"

# The compositor is black, no video shown
This error generally means the game is not compatible.
In order for this experimental first person stabilizer to work;
* The game must be OpenXR
* Not use Easy Anti-Cheat or similar
There are no plans to resolve this constraint. Instead, we recommend developers integrate LIV Camera Kit (LCK) to provide stabilized video capture solutions to content creators.
# LIV icon is greyed out or not showing in the SteamVR window
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/troubleshooting/general-troubleshooting/grey-liv-icon
If the icons are grayed out, it's because your controllers aren't switched on.
If the icons aren't showing at all, it's likely that SteamVR is running in Safe Mode. Check your SteamVR status window to find out if that's the case, and see if there's a way to resolve the conflict.
The LIV SteamVR Driver could also be missing or disabled! To check for either case, navigate to SteamVR → Settings → Startup/Shutdown → Manage Add-Ons.
**If it is missing**, try [verifying LIV's contents](https://help.liv.tv/hc/en-us/articles/360016821919-How-To-Verify-LIV-s-Contents-in-Steam) in Steam.
**If it is disabled**, flip the switch to enable it and you should be good to go!

# Resolve Plugin Update Error
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/troubleshooting/general-troubleshooting/plugin-update-error
The LIV App has tried to auto-update LIV supported games made in Unity on your PC, but failed. This is most likely due to the LIV App not having permissions to modify the LIV\_MR module, which could be caused by any of the following reasons:
* You weren't the user to originally install the game on the PC
* The game was migrated from a different storage drive
* The game was installed with Steam running as administrator
The general solution is to reinstall the game using Steam. If that doesn't resolve it or if your issue is unrelated to permissions, please let us know over in our [Discord](http://liv.chat/) and we'll get you sorted. Make sure to save the error message by pressing the "Copy to clipboard" button!
# LIV crashes on startup or the LIV calibration window shows a white screen
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/troubleshooting/general-troubleshooting/startup-crash
*Mixed Reality or Avatar mode*
Fix 1: Reset your LIV configurations
It's possible that your LIV config files have gone bad and are causing the app to crash.
1. Open the LIV launcher and go to "General Settings" in the bottom left, then hit the "Reset All Settings" button.
2. Exit out of LIV and SteamVR.
3. Start SteamVR, then start LIV and try again.
Fix 2: Render everything on one GPU
On laptops or any dual-GPU setup, you need to assign LIV and VIVR (our calibration & avatar tool) to run on the dedicated GPU.
1. Open the Nvidia Control Panel
2. Click Manage 3D Settings
3. Click Program Settings
4. Click Add
5. Select "capture.exe" (can be found in X:\Steam\steamapps\common\LIV)
6. Click Add Selected Program
7. Set it to run on "High-performance NVIDIA processor"
8. Click Apply in the bottom right corner
9. Repeat steps 4-8, but select "VIVR.exe" instead of "capture.exe" this time (can be found in X:\Steam\steamapps\common\LIV\resources\VIVR).
Fix 3: Manage your imported avatars
Did LIV suddenly go bad on you after you imported a new avatar? LIV does not have a gag reflex (although that would awesome), and so a bad avatar can cause LIV to continuously crash until manually removed.
1. Isolate that this is the problem by going to "My Documents\LIV" and rename the "Avatar" folder to "Avatar.old"
2. If this resolves the crashing, iteratively copy in the avatars one at a time from "Avatar.old" back to "Avatar" until you identify which one is causing the problem. You should now be able to use the rest of the avatars.
The avatar will need to be investigated for conflicts. If you've created or commissioned an avatar that isn't working properly with LIV and you're at a loss, send it our way and we will gladly take a look!
# My tracker isn't being used even though I selected it
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/troubleshooting/general-troubleshooting/tracker-not-used
Sometimes LIV fails to redirect your tracker.
The workaround:
* Edit the camera that's supposed to have a working tracker
* Under calibration, select "None" for the tracker
* Re-select your tracker again, and LIV will attempt to re-redirect it

# USB and WiFI troubleshooting
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/troubleshooting/general-troubleshooting/usb-wifi
**Using USB?**
* Make sure you've got iTunes installed, and your device is connected.
* If you get no output in LIV, try closing (swipe away) the app and re-open it. It should show up straight away.
* If it looks glitchy, rotate your device 180 degrees.\
\
**Using WiFi?**
* Make sure your PC and phone are on the same network.
* It'll work best if you're in the same room as the WiFi router.

***Fix 1:*** Make sure you have set the role for the LIV Virtual Camera (Tracker) to **Disabled**. SteamVR desktop dashboard -> Devices -> Manage Vive Trackers.
**Fix 2:** Make sure SteamVR isn't launching in safe mode (generally caused by outdated SteamVR plugins) and that your Add-Ons aren't disabled. SteamVR desktop dashboard -> Settings -> Startup/Shutdown -> Show Advanced Settings (bottom left) -> Manage Add-Ons. "00liv\_virtualcamera" needs to be **on**.
**Fix 3:** Uninstall Natural Locomotion if you have it on your system. Natural Locomotion is incompatible with LIV due to it interfering with device tracking.
Here's how to remove Natural Locomotion completely:
* Close LIV and SteamVR
* Press Win+R, then paste %localappdata%\openvr
* Open the openvrpaths.vrpath file with Notepad
* Remove the [entire line referencing the Natural Locomotion driver](https://i.imgur.com/RUOyL4R.png):
* Save the file (make sure you get the comma at the end of the previous line, if there is one)
* Reboot SteamVR and LIV and test it out!
**Fix 4**: For Beat Saber specifically, make sure that you do not have the DynamicOpenVR mod installed. - This issue applies to ALL headsets.
**Fix 5**: Make sure you have set your camera's tracking source to be **Static (None)** for the LIV Virtual Tracker. You only select a physical controller/tracker when that device is permanently affixed to your camera.
LIV -> Camera tab -> Settings button -> Calibration tab -> Tracker dropdown. Select Static (None) which is the default option.
**Fix 6:** Make sure your headset is not asleep when trying to calibrate otherwise your controller stops communicating. If you are desktop calibrating put it on your head and make sure it receives some movement to keep it awake, or disable the sleep timeout in the SteamVR sleep settings.
# Can't see StreamerKit in your headset
Source: https://liv-creators.mintlify.app/liv-steam-app-on-pcvr/troubleshooting/streamerkit/cant-see-streamer-kit-in-headset
StreamerKit is an overlay application, which requires the VR runtime to have an Overlay feature, which Oculus mode does not. In order to run the game in openvr mode, the game needs to be purchased from Steam or somewhere that is not the Oculus store, and then you need to modify the launch option.
If you acquired the game from a different store than Steam you'll want to do the equivalent launch options to run the game. If your store platform does not have a launch option create a shortcut to the game executable and add the launch option there.
1: Make sure that your monitor is plugged into your GPU and not your motherboard graphics port.
2: Go to Properties on the game under the library and then find the Launch Options
3: Set a launch option of **-vrmode openvr** if it is a Unity game, or **-hmd=SteamVR** if it is an Unreal engine game. Use these launch options in the target of a shortcut if necessary. [**(I have an Oculus headset and LIV isn't capturing my game; I can't see the chat box or alerts in my headset)**](https://help.liv.tv/hc/en-us/articles/360016821819-I-have-an-Oculus-headset-and-LIV-isn-t-capturing-my-game-I-can-t-see-the-chat-box-or-alerts-in-my-headset)
4: Go to SteamVR -> Settings -> Developer and make sure where it says **Current OpenXR Runtime** it is set to **SteamVR**. If it is not click the button below that says **Set SteamVR as OpenXR Runtime**.
5: If neither of these work or make the game not have controllers you can try setting the game executable to run in **Windows 7 Compatibility Mode**. To do this go to the location of the games executable, right click the executable and then click on properties, go to the compatibility tab and then select the compatibility mode. Note this method can sometimes have undesirable side effects like not having any controllers or other things not functioning.
6: Try launching it from the Steam desktop app and select "Launch \ in Steam VR Mode"
7: If you use an Oculus Quest you should try Virtual Desktop (purchased from the Quest store) instead of Oculus Link as that makes the Quest act more like a native SteamVR headset and can get the game to run in OpenVR mode. Use this in combination with the [vrdesktop.net](http://vrdesktop.net) desktop streamer app inside of steamVR.
8: If none of these work you will need to contact the game developer about allowing you to run their game in OpenVR mode for Oculus.

Fix: Delete StreamerKit configuration files
1. Win+R (to bring up run dialog), enter **%localappdata%\LIV\StreamerKit** , and click OK
2. You should have a list of json files, could you just archive all of them (Send to -> Compressed (zipped) Folder)
3. Delete all file except the zip file just created
4. Re-authenticate Twitch, double check you are authenticating to your account, see if chat/etc is working.
5. Re-authenticate with Streamlabs/Streamelements and test donations or merch alerts from their service

Usually this is due to a permissions issue on the folder. Try deleting the StreamerKit folder under **%localappdata%\LIV**
Use **Windows + r key** --> copy and paste this **%localappdata%\LIV** into the Run window that just opened
Next delete the StreamerKit folder then give StreamerKit another try.
